Hi, I have a brand new 2018 Fiat 500x and I am having a problem with the FCW. The dealer said it is fine but I say it isn't working properly. Mine has Full speed forward collision warning Plus. everything I read says this will stop the car if the driver doesn't respond. The dealer said no it only gives an audible warning. Does anyone know the true answer? thanks

I've got a 500x with forward collision warning. In my case, it fully engages the brakes and completely stops the car.
There is configuration option accessed via the LCD screen, which allows me to set the sensitivity of the system. I've set it to the most sensitive setting.
The force of the automatic braking is enormous, I was quite surprised by how incredibly fast it responded to a difficult situation, like when a child jumped in front of the car.
On the down side, if the car behind me isn't equipped with the same technology, then it will probably rear end me.
Maybe this system is not available in your country due to local laws?

Better to be rear ended than kill a child I guess.
Try asking a different dealer or Fiat Customer Services. I don't have that system but my understanding has always been that it is supposed to slow/stop the car if you don't

that all the advertisements and the owners manual clearly say it will stop the car but they tell me no it doesn't. I said if that's true then we have a false advertising issue now. It's so frustrating. I Just can't get them to understand.

Interesting thread, whilst I don’t own a 500x anymore to check, it did have FCW.
If you’d have asked me I would have said it would bring the car to a halt, but thinking about it, all I got was a audible tone followed by a jolt from the brakes. If an obstacle was in the way I would have been applying the brakes myself at that point so would have stopped anyway.
On a couple of occasions the system thought I was going to hit something, like a parked car and it would stamp on the brakes, but then release them. As a driver, my reaction was to be on the brakes at that point wondering what the hell was going on.
I need to check my current car (Volvo) to see what it does. The thing is of course that if you’re paying attention, as you should be, you’d take over control anyway and the car would work with you to assist in stopping as quickly as possible.
It would be a very brave driver who wouldn’t jump in and stamp on the brakes when something appears in front of you.
Only way to be sure would be to find a brick wall and drive at it and see what happens. Make sure you video it so you can put it on YouTube though as I wouldn’t trust it to work.

I certainly wouldn't complete rely on it but I paid for it so I want it to work.

If it doesn't trigger the brakes then I'd say you were correct and Fiat need to sort it out.
On mine, if it detected something it would really bang on the brakes.
Never sure if it actually brought you to a stop, but it definitely didn't just beep.

That's just a lazy dealer. I had an engine problem that didn't show a fault code. Turned out be a duff sensor. The computer sensed that the sensor was working so didn't show a fault, but the sensor was sending the wrong info. Changed the sensor, problem went away, but it didn't ever show a fault code.
I've told my story on here before, insofar that I bought a 500x and only a day later found it had the safety pack installed. What a lovely surprise.
I think mine works, ive heard the audible beep a few times, but once on the motorway in the fast lane it beeped when a car suddenly slowed down and stopped in front of me, and although I braked in response it felt as though the car applied extra braking above and beyond my input. Good job it did because i was only a few feet behind the car in front when i came to a stop.

Don't confuse EBA (Emergency Brake Assist) with the FCW action. The fact that when your FCW kicked in and did a brake jolt but you also responded quickly yourself then I think YOU activated the EBA system and it was not the FCW system doing the braking.
Hi, I used to have a Jeep Renegade with the same FCW system, I had a issue with the FCW not working kept apperaring, the only way it went away was when the ignition was switched off and on. The Jeep dealer after several trips found it was the Led brake and rear light bulbs that caused the error. They replaced them with the original non Led bulbs and the problems were solved. I bought a 2016 Fiat 500x, it had the same fault, I took off the rear lights and found the P21W bulbs has slightly blackened. These where replace new P21W bulbs from Halfords and yes ther error message went away completely. So before you go off to the dealer, just check and replace the rear bulbs.

Maybe the system detects the failing brake lights and flags a fault
as if the brake lights don't work and it goes into emergency brake
mode any driver behind would have even less chance of stopping

It certainly wouldnt be their only false advertising. I suspect it will do as it should if you can get the settings right. If they are deceiving on a safety issue it woudl be their end in the USA. Nothing like a good legal system
How can you test that it brakes or doesn't? Mine quite often gets a missile lock warning whenever I pass a car roond yer (lane discipline is not the best, in the Land that Time Forgot) but I've never noticed it braking (although that might be because I was already braking, when it was going to).
