FLY WHEEL £££££££££££££££££JEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZ

they are correct indeed the jtd has a dual mass flywheel but i would be looking for the cause of the bearings going as it will only happen again if not fixed properly. get them to check for play in the crank bearings.

how many miles has the car done?

Hi Ash

its done 82000 but it has only had 2 previouse owners, and full service history anything it ever needed it got.

Cheers Scotty

The mechanic has said if there was the slightest play in crank it would be qoute knoking its tits of ,and not to be so silly??

He also said this is a common problem on the JTD and the new transits, as they are also dual mass fly wheel jobys, or any other dualmass fly wheel car/van and it is just ware and tare.

He siad the doblo is the same engine and them being popular taxis and high millage they are going in them all the time aswell, and has done a lot of them.

And that he thought i would have known about this as i had told him about being a boo memeber and the wealth of knoldge that there is on the site, and because it was an upprated clutch going in asswell!!

And then laughed!! who could blame him if the boot was on the other foot i would be pissing myself

its at the mileage where it could possibly go. are you running a remap?

No but that is why i uprated the clutch because i inted to go for the 170 remap after a few more uppgrades, and it will be going to these guys for them DOC in dundee these guys are realy good the owner does a lot of track stuff with a cossie.

So some future info RIGHT HERE on JTD FLY WHEELS

Scotty

i got an email erleir from one of the mechanics that is doing the work on my car,he was very curiuose to the qestions i was asking him and my apparant lack of knoledge to the facts of the job in hand IE. flywheel and clutch.

And also said he knew, i was thinking he was pulling my chain,so i told him about this thread, and gave him the address.

he emaild back that it was a classic case of people thinking they know it all! when they dont, including slating me!for my original explanation of the fault, witch i hold my hands up to, with the fly wheel, but was still surprised at the feedback being so wrong,

And that certain comments could only be made after having first hand experiance,on either side of the coin???? (That is putting it politlay)

So just goes to show dont belive everything you here as being correct!! first off!!!

And this post is not meant as a dig at anyone!!! but if anyone takes that way then thats up to them!!

Scotty.

Well he's hardly gonna turn round and say 'ok guv, hands up, you got me'

There are a few time-served mechanics lurking on here, and i think one has posted already. Also Ash, who's had more gearboxes on and off than i've had tyres changed.

But hey, just you go mouthing off at the people who have nothing to gain finacially, or reputation-wise, when you've asked them for opinions/advice. But after that, dont bother asking dude....

Buzz, with all due respect i see what you are saying, but did you read through the hole thread?

cause if you did? and fully understood it then you are being very silly in your comment!.

I wasent MOUTHING OFF as you put it!! i was just stating facts, and im not trying to slate anybody or trying to PATT anyones EGO.NOT MY STYLE

No one even had an idea that it was a DUAL MASS
fly wheel, to start off with including me!! that was in qeustion, until it was stated, if they did they clearly would not have made the comments that were put forward.Granted my original description of the problem was missleading,i appoligise for that. But it was made clear.

This is what the mechanic was pointing out to me,and it is that he was surprised at,and thats exactly what i am trying to put accross!!SURLEY THATS A GOOD THING???
READ the Hole THRED.

JEZUS Are facts on this forum not 1 of the most important things about it??? so other members can benifit from them???

Or is it just keeping sertan people happay
By stroking there ego???

And if i seem to be offending people on this?? then please tell me so, and give details as to why??

Shame i didnt see this earlier.

will not add anything as its all a bit late...

but will confirm they are duel mass if that helps you confirm trust in the man doing the work. however i doubt it needs replacing but thats easy to say without looking at it.

If it is the bearing he says then it would be very hard/impossible to check with a picture.

Ask him out of curiousity just how he diagnose the problem, they do "float" so they will move.

Now put your hand bags away, everyone has had good intentions :)

Search is a marvellous tool. Remapping, uprated clutches and flywheel limitations have been covered loads on here as VDC variable damper centres or dual mass flywheels.
So it is incorrect to say that JTD flywheels have not been talked about on here before.
You were either asleep, not able to afford a JTD or not born.

Early VW 1.8Ts suffered very badly when they first came out as many owners reported losing all drive as the central flywheel dampers failed totally.

scotty im on 92k and when I need a new clutch I will change the flywheel pob too... let me know the total price so I can start saving.

dude, i sense a whiff of paranoia around you. been tokin' on a few joints?

I've made no vendetta against you, and refuse to apologise for anything i may have said thats upset your sensibilities. Perhaps i didn't agree with you further up this thread, certainly, you seemed to take great offense and went off on a rant. And i simply ignored it. But why single me out? Tom, PaulR and Ash have all in one way or another suggested this mechanic may be taking you for a ride...

What i see here is a classic case of someone accusing another person of the very thing they've done themselves and making a personal fight out of it to distract from the fact they've been in the wrong themselves in the first place.
Let me clarify. (now that i've re-read this whole thread again) You've come here, asked for advice regarding clutch/flywheel prices. My last post is in reference to this because you now have first-hand experience and evidence of pricing, and keep it to yourself, or at least out of the public domain?
You've huffed, puffed and sighed your way through this entire conversation, and responded quite agressively, imho, to many people.
PaulR for example(Of Powerfiat tuning and bodyshop) suggested that the bearings 'float' but your mechanic has said that it would be 'knocking its tits off' if there was any play at all. I thought you said we weren't supposed to believe everything we hear first-off. You contradict yourself quite frequently elsewhere too while we're on the subject

"So some future info RIGHT HERE on JTD FLY WHEELS" The you refuse to post it

"JEZUS Are facts on this forum not 1 of the most important things about it??? so other members can benifit from them???" Apparently not in your case

Listen, at the end of the day, you've grabbed hold of the wrong end of the stick. Either that, or you really do have a paranoia and think that everyone is out to get you. I think if we had used the tone and language in our messages, that you had in yours, you'd be in a proper fizz. Try looking at what you've posted with a fresh pair of eyes and see if perhaps you have a clue what i'm talking about?
I'm not out to get you. I have nothing to gain financially or otherwise out of anything i say here, nor does anyone else. The only person, in this case, with profits and reputation to protect, is your mechanic. Thats not to say he's not right. We've all agreed i think that its very hard to diagnose from afar without the pictures you were asked for, but it was still felt that the likelihood is that you're being asked to spend money unneccesarily. It will do no harm to anyone at all if you go ahead with the extra work. Indeed, many of us take preventative maintenance measures, such as 50k cambelt changes, and changing water pumps while the belts off 'just in case' being a popular example.
We're all here because we like our cars, and we like the club. Many of us here are modifiers like yourself, and dont mind spending a few bob on upgrades, and preventative maintenance measures. Just yesterday my entire exhaust (well, from the cat-back) was treated to 2 coats of VHT paint to ensure that it lasts a few years longer before rusting and breaking and needind replaced for example.

In summary, i dont have anything against you, other than the fact that you seem to take everything very personally, as if its an attack on your character. we're all here to help each other, and if you cant recognise the tone someone means, even when they use winky smileys, then perhaps you need to start reading things twice before flaming well-established members (and visitors) of FiatBOO like Tom, Ash, PaulR and myself.

so lets shake hands like big boys huh?

PS, apologies for the slightly OT nature or this rather long and rambling post

first of i dont smoke atol, lets get that clear, and your long winded rant is a pile of ****e,i am not only refering to this thred, when i say you have been having a dig for a while now.
And i am not pariniod either just observant/not stupid, dont try to to make fasle judgments about me at the start of your post and then suggest we shake hands at the end of it,including all your versions of my posts inbetween on this particular thred .
That shall we say were not meant to flatter me,like i said buzz.
Dont **** around or try to be a smart arse, say it how you mean it or dont say it atol,or are you looking to get a pat on the back here ??

scotty_sig.jpg

No pats on the back thanks, you can kiss my ass if you want? (Hey, I might as well stoop to your level)

If you want me to blow sunshine up your ass your asking the wrong fella here. Dont ask me to be straight with you immediately after complaining that i did just that. Lets just agree that we're not destined to be drinking buddies and leave it at that then.
