My bess is in getting her clutch upgrade in prep for some serouse tunning,but the mechanic has called and said the fly wheel is on its last legs,teeth are worn??? and not worth trying to rescim.
Fiat want £290 odd for a reconditiond one and cant get it until thursday??
My local MF can get one tommorow for£212 +vat for a brand new one and can get it tommorow.
can anyone improve on that price??????????????

I'm looking at around £350 at least for a flywheel, I'm hoping to fook that it won't need doing.

There was a fella on AO that had one made up for much cheaper than the Alfa one...but he wasn't forthcoming with the details of where he got it

Teeth are worn? He means the starter ring gear on the outside of the flywheel. On many engines the teeth ring gear is a seperate unit, so it can be can be removed from the flywheel
itself and replaced on it's own. Sorry, don't know if this is the case on your car, but someone on here will.
Another point to bear in mind is that a little wear, (rounding-off of the teeth) is quite normal and they have to be pretty bad, (i.e., seriously rounded, or broken/missing teeth) before needing replacement.

Must be bad as he said he would put it back together no probs,but would withdraw the warenty on fitting.

And he knows of my tunning plans,and said it would be very silly to spend on an upprated clutch and fitting cost, and put it in with a flywheel on its last legs,and then do a remap.

to witch i replied silly doesent even nearly cover it,it would be criminal.

So thats what has to be done,i dont see why they are so expensive though???

You've told him about your intention to do this tuning and he has seen a way to make some cash.

The ring gear has diddly squat to do with how the clutch actually works.

But how does he make cash,if im buying the part,and will be asking for the old parts now that you have got me worried.

He also said that parts of the old clutch had came apaet LUGS he said or something or another.

Hey Scotty, Tom will be able to tell you what the script is with the flywheel if you post pics. If it's gubbed it's gubbed, if it was replaced without need then you can kick up f*ck and find a new mechanic.

The only reason your flywheel will need changing is if the surface has warped or cracked
. The ring gear can be changed. it is made of hardened steel unlike the flywheel

so it would be best to go to the garage first and look at it,and then ask the mechanic to point out what the problem is exactly.

And then decide whether he is taking me for a ride or not,,,,or go and buy the new fly wheel first and use that as a refrence to look at against the one thats in????

Either way im not looking farward to it and i hope this guy is on the level, couse if he is not what can i do as my motor is in bits waiting on the F wheel.

its the age old rule never talk about tuning at a garage as this tells them "this guy has money to burn!" and they will!!! rip you off.

the line that allways works well for a good price is im just a broke student struggeling to keep my crappy car going because i need it to get home.

Uppdate on the F wheel,first off DA factors of dundee are ****E the fly wheel has aperently been sent to Shefeild instead of Dundee,so it want come until tomorrow AAAARARRRRRHHHHHH

And mabey my first description of the problem with the fly wheel was ****E shal we say??
aparently,it is a dual mass fly wheel,wich has some sort of centre baering and it is this that is grinding and knackerd??

Does that make more sense to any one?? sorry for my ****e description to begin with.

i don't know who is kidding who here. The flywheel does not have any bearings. It is a solid lump of metal that bolts on to the crankshaft. it has a machined surface for the clutch friction plate. On the outer rim it has a ring of teeth , this is a shrink fitthe only bearings that might have gone are the crankshaft bearings.

Well D+A factors have clarifide its a dual mass fly wheel and that there is a centre bairing of some sort??

Just like the mechanic said,have you ever seen a Fly wheel from this Model its a 1999 this year??
