Hi all, new to this forum and just wondered if anybody has experienced or could give me an idea of the solution or cause to my problem.

I haven't used my fiat bravo for a couple of weeks due to Xmas.

Went out today and do a few things tyres and stuff and I had to change a fuse, after about 1hr of messing around finding the fuse panel begin the glove box I started the car and it started all the electrics....everything, started flicking and then when I turned it over it just cut out.

So I thought maybe it's a flat battery so I got the jump leads out and sorted it, so I thought.

So the electrics continued to flicker then a warning message came up for the abs and airbags and the light with a car and a lock came up which I believe is the alarm. When I turned the cars lights off the rear wiper started.

Now I know I changed a few fuses but that was it.

Has anyone had this before or is there a possibility or a short or some issue that maybe I have overlooked and it is something I've done....thought I can't see how.

Sorry for the long message but appreciate the help.

It is an 08 bravo active 1.9 120 multijet.

Thanks

The last time I had flickering lights on Bravo diesel, it was the battery not strong enough to start the car.Can you hear the clicking noise while starting the car and turning the key? If you can than it is the battery. Also check the fuse you replaced.Just in case.ps jump starting did not work due to the flat battery.

When I turn the engine on it just clunks once but then everything goes off and when the key goes back in the Mar position the flickering starts again.

Cheers though it is worth a trip to halfords for a new battery.

leave the jumper cables on for a few minutes ~10 then try again.. it does sound like a drained battery.

This sounds like a loose connection somewhere or a short circuit. I had a weird problem a bit like this many years ago and it turned out to be a faulty fuse it appeared to be OK but the wire was loose at one end causing the problem. It nearly drove me mad!

Also check that water has not got into something. The cars computer is very complex and wired into everything from door locks to seat belts. I would also try working all these and the door light switches.

Check the battery terminals are both clean and tight.

Check that the relays in the box under the bonnet are dry as well.

Have a second look at the fuse box and check all the wires are secured and connected properly and that you havn't disturbed any

I hope this may spark an idea for you
Good luck

+1 more for dead battery. Happened to mine once, stalled it, went to start it back up and everything just flickered and stopped. Turned out, the AA bloke said the battery was dead. Changed it for a new one and voila.

Cheers all, I did everything suggested and then got my ass to halfords and the new battery did the job. Mrs used the car today and all was good so hopefully we're all good.....watch this space.

Thanks again for all your quick responses

Nice to hear, that you solved the issue. I was just afraid that you will just leave the jumper cables on for a few minutes and than use the car and the car will die on you somewhere. Some guys never learn and never change the parts that need to be replaced and they just keep on driving as far as it goes. And than it is the manufacturers fault and quality issues :bang: I am happy that there are still responsable folks out there (y)
