We run 3 Ducatto 3.0jtd long wheel base vans all 07 reg. 1 van gets a lot of flat tyres, different wheels. The problem seems to be from the base of the valve. 4 flat tyres in the last year. New valves fitted by different tyre bays depending on where the flat happened. Flats on 3 different wheels. The valves have not been caught or kerbed. Has anyone heard of the problem or had the problem.

Its happened twice to me with my 2.8JTD. Both times sitting in the driveway, heard a wooshing noise and a rear tyre deflated. Different tyres, wheels. The valve stems are rubber and were badly cracked at the point of entry to the rim. They were either faulty from new (unlikely) or perished in strong sunlight (ozone attack - possible, and not so likely in UK).

I have read that there are at least two kinds of rubber valve stems: those for sedans and such, rated up to about 65 psi, and those for commercial vehicles, rated above that. Perhaps mine were the lower ones.

Thank you
I shall try my dealer to see if they know anything about a recall. Will also look at the other options.
Keep you informed

the ETRTO changed it's recommendation a couple of years ago because of this problem ; unless you are using less than 4.5 bar pressure YOU MUST USE METAL VALVES
