i have a mk2 punto 1.2 8v and the engine light has started flashing at high speeds since ive used some petrol system cleaner. will this go away once the petrol gets used up or is something else astray?

tricky question.. why did you use the system cleaner.., :confused:
the rough running you may have experience could also be related..

the light will leave a fault code..,
that code will point to what the cars ECU ( brain) thinks the issue may be,;)

I have quite often have the flashing engine light on my Punto - as you say at high speed (or high revs) ....... I did read once that this was due to detection of unburnt fuel, but the "experts" on here (who have far more knowledge than me, and I rate highly) dismissed this.


With my punto, nothing was stored in the ECU when this happened.
 
Check if the engine controler has any DTC stored, and check the age of the cambelt. If both are ok, then preform a enginespeed relearn.

Let the engine heat up to above 75 degrees celcius, then give full trottle till the engine is at max, and let it drop till normal, do this 3 times in a row.
