Panda (Classic) Fizzle :)

hmm those horrid quick release fuel connectors? yeah ive had problems with them in the past.. to be honest. i am using hoses with jubilee clips on Fallout and Talon with no issues. not sure if you could do the same?

No it's a right angled plastic connector that uses an o ring to seal itself into the top of the fuel pump assembly,

middle top white and red, they have grooves in them that the metal plate holds them in with the captive bolt.

Well Fizzle is on the receiving end of some tender loving care from panda1408 Freddy for what was meant to be just cavity waxing and undersealing but has turned into a little bit more work.

Which will probably entail the removal of the outer sill to properly rectify the crustyness!

Anyone got a pair of sills they can part with (passenger side soon I think too!)?

Taros Trade have them cheap but still haven't got back to me with postage costs...

A little update and a BIG decision.

The Bulgarians threw the sills and the bumpers in a big box - I kid you not - which arrived slighty worse for wear yesterday.

Today I took the sills to Freddy for attaching.

Fizzle has a lot more rot than first thought, indeed now the sill is off the extent of the work needed has just about doubled - this is before the passenger side sill has been exposed too!

Despite having the others, none of them comes closer to my heart than the little red car which started it all.

So what's the big decision John? Fizzle is the one and only and is you all over, Fizzle is your trademark as far as I am concerned. He must be saved, end of :)

I know, I know, I'm musing over creating Fizzle II using a solid doner car - the black CLX is too rough, the white CLX is too good - I need one that is just right!

Oh and it HAS to be Red - proper red!

I always imagined if I was going to spend thousands on a Panda it would be immaculate - not just to keep one on the road

But John, this is Panda ownership at it's best!

You've said to me yourself that no other Panda has clicked with you the same way that Fizzle has.

Repair Fizzle.

Even if you get a donor, it won't be Fizzle. Not matter how good an example it is, it will never "feel" the same. "something" will always be missing.

You might end up getting one that seems solid but isn't as good as you think, whereas if you do the work on Fizzle, not only will you be saving the car you have an attachment to, you will know it is solid from the ground up.

Yes it's true I'm very attached to Fizzle and he will be a tough act to follow.

I said yesterday that if I didn't save him I'd probably regret it.

I knew when I undersealed it a couple of years ago that he wasn't in great nick but selectively forgot all about that until now.

I feel I need to explore my options fully before committing to any course of action.

No matter what decision I take it won't be easy.

I can only spend money once and can only hope to do so wisely.

Maybe I should start a new thread - "how much money would you be willing to spend keeping your favourite Panda on the road?"

Unfortunately Fizzle is beyond economic repair for me, looking at a bill of around £3k just to keep him on the road and ongoing cutting out and patching up going forward so the hardest decision had to be made.

I plan to use various bits to remedy faults in other cars I have (heater matrix, throttle body etc) and strip him for parts so in some way he will live on.

There is just too much rot everywhere, the inner sills have parted company from the floor along his length, underneath is riddled with patches of rust that turn into bigger jobs once explored, plus every panel needs attention on the body to keep him just standing still never mind restored.

The truth is he was never very sound structually but I turned a blind eye and hoped for the best.

An object lesson in th dangers of ebay Panda buying - I've learnt a heck of a lot through my mistakes.

Really sad but ironically the car I bought to keep Fizzle in spares turns out to be the better car to go forward with (LULO).

The King is dead - Long live the King.

The best thing about Fizzle is that he taught me that there are people out there who will help you when things go wrong and keep you going when things look bleak - I have had so much help and encouragement from the forum and it's members not to mention parts and time and laughs too :slayer:

It is indeed a sad day for Fizzle, but he would need a huge amount of work to get him structually sound once again. Previous MOT patches have done him no favours and now that the original metal around these has let go means that the only way to do it would be cut everything out and start again, a very time comsuming process.

It's not all bad though as the many good parts will be reused in the rest of John's fleet and will no doubt help out some other forum members. It also means John has ended up with his perfect Panda in Fizzle's place - an injected twin sunroof model, most importantly in red!(y)
