My Punto's (Mk 2) blowies were only working when set to 4 so I got a replacement resistor today to fix it.

My problem is, I don't know if it's the right one and if so where it's to go...

Here's what I have - on the left is what I took out of the car (which has B837 - 12v on it) and on the right is what I got today (Which also has B837 - 12v on it).

As you can see the connection end on both of them is the same but otherwise they're totally different. I can well believe there are different versions of the same resistor out there but the one on the left doesn't seem to be anything more than a switch - and the only way to connect the one on the right where it was is to get rid of the dial... which isn't really going to do me any good!

Here's what I have in front of me when I open the front console of the car...

So did I get the wrong part or am I looking in the wrong place?

Thanks for any help you can give.

You are confused because the one on the left is the switch and the one on the right is the resistor.
The resistor is usually fitted at the motor end down under the passenger footwell. Haynes manual is what's required.

Hi,

does anyone have the part number for the one on the left as my wifes car has the same problem need the know and the bit that plugs into the car

Thanks

Steve

Are you sure its the one on the left thats faulty, its usually the one on the right.

Cheers

Hi m8

Good question the knob has broken off and some is still on that other bit and she has no hot air so I need to replace it but will check the other bit next to the glove box is that right

Steve

Well got all the bits the knob the bit behind the knob also got the resistor still have no warm air anyone help with this.

Also should the resistor get hot I think the old one works the same

Thanks

Steve

Yes the resistor pack should get hot on settings i, 2 and 3, but not 4.

That control is for the volume of air not the temperature of the air.

The air temperature is controlled by the switch with the red and blue on it.

Considering the fact that the fan control knob was in bits, has someone been playing with the heater controls and possibly put the heat control knob on the wrong way?

Cheers

Hi, sorry for reviving an old thread. My fan speed selector switch is broken and i need to replace it. How to get it out like in the bottom picture? When I try to pull on it, it doesnt come out all the way and I cant unplug it...

I suppose you just pull it out but what makes you think the switch is broken? What is the fault?
I tried, but it doesnt pull out, it pulls out just a little bit but not nearly enough to unclip the harness. Maybe I should just pull harder :).

The fault is that it doesnt press in to turn on and off the A/C and the fan doesnt work on none of the speeds (I checked the resistor and its ok) so I think something is internally broken.

it might be those white plastic raised parts are plastic welded into the holes on the switch. The heater controls are usually sold as a unit with just those 3 switches from a scrap yard i think

I think the problem is because I have a car with A/C and there is a bigger switch inside than in the photo in the first post and if I try to pull it out, it doesnt come out enough to disconnect the wiring.

pretty sure you need to take out the unit with the 3 switches to get to put the wiring in. The harness will just be loose at the back?

Thats what I am asking, because I cant find a way to get the white unit with switches out.
