im going to be getting some alloys soon as one of mine gave up on saturday, just got back from Brooklands, got a nice flat spot on the inside edge!

anywho, what kind of work would i be looking at to get 18's on, ie what arch work. the car will be on standard suspension for a while yet if that makes much difference? the cars a 99 1.2 sx.

i can get 17's but i want 18's!

any help appreciated

Andy

As far as i know there shouldn't be any need to mod the arches.

However i think they advise alloys 18x7, fairly rare size.

However if you travel fast, apply ur brakes while turning the wheel i'm sure the wheel will catch the arch.

Full lock maybe a problem too.

Several peeps on here have 18's but i'm sure they have them on HGT's with the wider wings.

Joske

cheers Joske. i have found the alloys i want, and can get them in the right size, which is a right bonus!

thanks for the help, and the reason i asked is that i know daz and paul have them (HGT owners) but also Big Al has them on his 1.8(?) and wanted to get a general consensus as to what would be involved and any problems i may come accross and how to counter act them.

Andy

Big Al's is a 1.8 and he has 18s.

I fitted 17x7's on my 1.8 and lowered it on a full Bilstein kit.

I've never had any srubbing even over speed bumps with 2 adults in the back. (providing you take it easy over the bumps)

I'm sure that 18x7s would definitely fit, providing of course you fit the right low profile tyres.

I really regret not going for 18s, although 17s are enough.

I think 18s only look good if they're a tasteful design. If you get 18s that are a bit too busy/flashy/saxo-ish the car might look daft.

Yeah Big Al (and myself) both have 18x7.5's and fit perfectly with no modding.

(I don't think either of us have lowered the car, but from what i can see there will be no problems)

Full lock, 5 people in the car plus luggage, no problems :)

Daz

cool, think i may well have to go down that line then, i like to pose!

i know that you hae a HGT Daz, and i know it has wider frnt arches, but you doubt i will have any problems with lock and rubbing?

i know from reading Big Als members page that he has bilstien shocks, are these just replacement do you know? if so i think i may well do that aswell, then get some springs at a later date.

finally getting my arse into gera after trhe embarassment of Brooklands with 2 different coloured wheels! and the fact they are tiny doesnt help!

Ta very much Guys

Andy

Big Als is not lowered the wheels do look nice tho, but he has a low front and rear bumper, dont know what it would look like without a kit

there is that, but i just wanted to make sure that he hasnt lowered it or put much stiffer suspension on his.

im gonna do a couple of lil bits to drop the overall hight (look wise) that will hopefully make it look even better, and make it stand out a bit more.

gonna get an exhaust aswell, but got to change insurance companies first as curchill are terrible!

cheers again

Andy

will do, hopefully within a month or so. before and after aswell, as she looks really bad at the mo! one silver punto gt alloy, two anthracite and a steel wheel without hub cap!

anything will look better, just gotta go flash!

oh NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO !!!!!!!!

maybe not quite anything then, but they have a bit of chrome, and gunmetal, and split rim look!!!

lol didnt think so.. i just broungt a set of BK 299's they look really good, i got them in gunmetal but the chrome ones look awsome

Lozz

im looking at the lenso evo 2's, can get them with tyres, looking wheel (wobbly) nuts and wobblies for £900. yeah a bit expensive but hey, i wanna be a bit different

I suppose i am a bit late now, but i have 18/ 7.5 .... i have lowered the car about 60mm (i say about as they are on adjustable suspension) and i have had a big build build and 5 ppl and no rubbing :) i have rolled the rear and trimed places on the front (very slight)

i only get rub on very big bumps or driving hard on twistys....

i know als isnt lowered but he had to trim some off the side skirt for a proper fit...

hope this helps in some way////

Paul r

cheers Paul. i dont have skirts, so i think i may have it even easier at the mo.

thanks for the help everyone, know the route i want to go now
