I've been scouting about the forum as a visitor for a while, enjoying many of the threads and pictures, but time to put my own questions up.

I bought my Grande Punto 1.4 8v Active showroom fresh in 2009 with a healthy £2k discount because of the scrappage scheme (thanks to the Govt for that one!) and it has done sod all mileage and has had naff all modifications since. Most of my time and attention has gone on my motorbike, but now it's time to show the Punto some love.

I'm looking to put some 17's on it and get it a bit closer to the ground, but nothing as extreme as every euro-look Golf that I see at the local McDonald's. Genuine Sporting wheels look the part but seem to be rarer than an Andy Murray smile, so aftermarket is where I'm heading. My main dilemma is around suspension though - springs or coilovers? Eibach Sportlines have the obvious advantage of being cheaper, but the drop is only around 40mm. I'm swaying towards AP coilovers which can lower up to around 65mm, but a mate who is a mechanic (whom I trust greatly) thinks that it'll start to munch driveshafts, or at least not be very healthy for them, with a drop of more than about 40mm. They're also a sh*t load more expensive.

I've seen plenty of pictures of the GPS with eibach springs and 17's, but am I right in thinking that they're lower than the Active as standard anyway? If so, does that make the required drop on an Active more in order to achieve the same look? I'd be interested to see anyone's pictures of an Active with eibach sportiness and some wheels, so I can judge what my car could look like.

Cheers

Hi, and welcome.

TBH - you see LOADS of GP threads about knackered CV's ,

but not too many on the 2/2B - maybe it's because they are so common / old people just get another shaft for @£10

I'd use SEARCH in advanced to trawl the 2/B section for relevant info,
adding to a relevant thread you find..,
