got quote of £260 for my cars first service from fiat main dealership near me. Got a 2008 1.4 16v sporting and its done 18,000 miles. few questions:

- can i get it done at a local garage and get them to use fiat parts so that my warranty is still valid?

-is this expensive or do i just have to come to terms with the fact cars are money pits

-what exactly do they do on services apart from oil checks etc?

btw i did a search but couldnt find anybody with my model regarding first service!

cheers

they tried to fool me into this aswell- £240, i rang up a few other dealers and eventually got my first service for £125.90 at Picadilly in Wakefield, its booked in for 1st May :)

EDIT: mine will only have done 10,000 miles though

cool i will ring around and get some more then. i thought it was a bit ridiculous! does if effect anything if you run slightly over your schedule, for instance, it gets serviced every 18,000 miles, and mine is nearing 18,200 cos i dont have the money to pay for it right now, but will do tomorrow?

i guess mine doing its 18,000 will up it slightly but still, £260!

2weeks and or/ up to 1000 miles over the maximum reccomended mileage between services iirc. You can get it serviced at an independant but they need to be VAT registered and use Fiat parts. The only advantage with using the dealer is that if you had something major go wrong just out of warrenty then they would probably be more inclined to do it at a discounted rate as you have been loyal to them since buying the car.

rang around my nearest dealers. next garage said £230, i said can you do it any cheaper, he said yeah, £170! how can my local one try and charge £260 the muppets! so i rang my local one back, and said can you go to £170, they said no, £210. i hate main dealers lol. i should be ok then, im 200 miles over, be reet! cheers guys

My local dealer said it would be £260!! rang around and found a dealer who did it for £150! Never been back to my local dealer since!!

yeah i booked it in for £170 at one thats bout 5 miles more to drive to get to, worth it to save me £90! and if anybody didnt know - you get 1,000 miles or a month from its registration date allowance on services.

yeah what i said, no offense but women dont usually check this sort of stuff, they would quite gladly just go in and pay £260 without thinking. its ridiculous!

yep. although you would think Fiat would clamp down on it to stop they're customers potentially being ripped off!

when i got told mine needed a service and thats how much it was, i rang round and then said ive found one cheaper and they said ti would invalidate my warranty- even though it was another Fiat dealer  no wonder people call them stealers is there?

just ring all the local dealers matt, then ring back the closest one get them to match it. no doubt they will try rip you off at first!

james1989 i have no idea haha. your car self implodes? just a guess . . .

i only rang 3, it took 10 minutes lol. lazy! as soon as i heard £170 i want going to bother trying to get it any lower though, thought if they first quoted £260 and got it to £170 i wasnt gona get it much lower!
