The car is a 1.4 ieS (1993, I think), BTW, so instructions for carb'ed cars are no good to me (y)

proberly need injector cleaning.use a good injector cleaner in the petrol tank.clean the throttle housing/butterfly with brake cleaner.go careful though.have the emmisions checked as well.

Firing got worse again, so changed plugs (nothing) and leads (nothing). Put it into my local garage guy, who diagnosed a slipped timing belt - put in a new one, and it's going well gain. £110.00 though.., but I couldn't have found/sorted the timing belt issue, so..

glad you sorted it out,but the cost of changing the belt is stupid.no more then £80 tops.

always when changing a cambelt, change the tensioner.if a counter balance belt is fitted[16v engine],this must be changed.also with belts off, change water pump if behind belts.new auxillary belts should be used.they do not like being slackened and tightened up again.safe and happy motoring.!!

if you lock the counter shafts, this eliminates the chance of the counter belt snapping and taking the cambelt with it,because its not needed.but it creates a rougher engine and 5 bhp extra approx.look at the alfa 155 engine.a great engine if looked after.
