Ive been offered a Fiorino pick up rolling shell. The engine was removed to do a Punto GT Turbo swap but the owner never got around to it.

What are my engine options?

I'd like to stick to Diesel as it would be less faffing about and the DVLA won't want twenty pieces of silver when I send the log book off.

So option 1; Find an original 1.7D and gearbox.

2/ One of the later model 1.9D or 1.9 TD from a Punto and other modular engines.

3/ JTD from a Multipla, Stilo etc...

4/ Petrol conversions; Uno Turbo (good luck finding one), Uno Turbo II or Punto Turbo, Super Fire engine on an Uno box, Bravo/Brava HLX 1.8, N/A Fiat Coupe', Fiat Coupe Turbo, Alfa V6 and so on.

I've never had the chance to tune a Diesel engine, I know the principals are the same, bigger turbo better intercooling etc but...

...what a sleeper and just how annoyed would the VW Caddy "Dub Scene" lot would be. ;)

£148 for all the parts I need to get the pick up running or £148 for a van if my mate with the pick up backs out.

I'm not usually one for buying blind but this time I'm optimistic.

This is the issue. The Van or pick up will potentially replace my 4x4 van idea (when it gets Moke'd or scrapped) and the 1.7 N/A Diesel is good for 60+mpg. If I tune or replace it I'd sacrifice the MPG for BHP.

Decisions eh?

All the engine options you mention above will fit, ( more or less...)
I would go for a modern jtd engine, be it 1,3 or 1,9.
Remember you'll need the gearbox and electronics as well....
( And you will need better brakes....)
The original turbo and non turbo 1,7 engines are a bit powerless and slow....but lack the modern electronics, which is fine, if you ask me...
Good luck...!!

I have Punto GT brakes if they'll fit. ;)

Seriously want to try the Redneck Nitrous but I have issues with death. We don't get along very well.

running engines on propane is old news.. you wanna get into HHO gas ;)

another thing you can do is mist injection. eats your exhaust away but i use to do it on my cinq.. works really good. you dont really notice much in terms of power but it helps when cruising and i found it raises your MPGs quite a bit. i used a big pond mister and a tank of water that the air intake went through.
keeps things clean too.
mist would work a lot better on a diesel.. makes the compression higher ;)

Bad news.

The pick up is gone. My pillock mate sold the rear buck for a trailer for £50 and scrapped the front for £40. :bang:

So the headlights, bonnet, wings, doors, windscreen, mirrors, front bumper and other useful bits are gone for good. :(

Probably a good thing as the neighbors have already complained about my three Pandas so a van and a pick up shell would probably tip them over the edge.

I did a pick up conversion to my mates Astramax about 98/99-ish. Bet he wishes we hadn't there are only half a dozen left in the UK now.

The Tuned Panda thread has got me thinking about the foreign meaning of tuning; styling.

I'm getting conflicting reports about the Fiorino. Will Uno parts fit or not?

I was thinking of finding, colour coding and fitting an Uno SX or Turbo front bumper with fog lights but some say it will fit and others say it won't. A more traditional modification with a desirable car derived front be grafted on to the van version. My mates Astramax had a full GTE front end, my old (Mk III) Escort was an XR3 replica (with an RST engine and box) and my Mk3 Astra Van has a full GSI body kit and Vectra V6 engine.

I don't really want to do much cosmetically, those days are long past (thank heck) and even a Horman kit would look daft with a bread box grafted on the back.
This sort of thing...

...would just look silly.

Factory option bumper, tidy paint and nice looking factory wheels so she's a little bit better but no where near over the top. Maybe a couple of auxiliary lights either roof pod mounted or drive lights if the headlights are crap.

For those of you who don't know the origins of violet and yellow...

My old stage rally car. I loved annoying the neighbors driving her to work at five in the morning. When the weather was too rough...

I won't be using...

..."Guff" colours this time either. ;)

My nice 14's may be used if they fit (£90 wheels on a £148 van? sounds about right)...

...as they don't fit my Panda by a long way. I have a few sets of Punto GT wheels and a set of Punto GT brakes with a solid beam axle 4x4 thoughts have crossed my mind but taking a 1.7 out to fit a 1242cc with low gears doesn't appeal. Lowering blocks and little camber (still working on that one) will be enough.

This isn't supposed to be a project but I have a boring job and have thought too much about it for it not to be. ;)
