Hi, I am looking for the rear brake compensator mounting plate for my 1998 pick up 1.7D.. Also have a problem selecting 1st 3rd and 5th gears as it seems sticky although 2nd and 4th go in ok. Anybody got any ideas?

Did you try the dealer?
Almost all parts are still available from Brazil, and not expensive!

About your difficult gear selection, there's a small part at the end of your gear selector, under the car, that will get stuck by rust, put a new one one, and your done, very inexpensive solution.
Give me your VIN and I will look the part # on my parts CD and post it here!

hi, what part on the linkeage do you mean, there are a few to choose from. The pick up has been laid up for a while and has only developed the gear selection problem when i started it the other day. Will forward the vin to you, thanks!

Well, it's actually a kind of small, hollow round metal axle thing, and it's plastic supports, there's a bolt going tru, with a nylock nut.
With the last 8 digits from your VIN, I can give you the exact Fiat part numbers.
Fit a new one with some Teflon grease, and you're done.
(or pry the existing one out, clean it good, grease and refit it.)

With the last 8 digits of the vin, I can look up all the original Fiat Brazil parts that came with the car when new, by doing so you can be sure you order the right parts, Fiat (Brazil) changed a lot of part numbers over the (model) years.
Altough Hellcat has supplied a very good picture, I only trust part numbers, when I have the correct Vehicle Identification Number.

Hi, Had a good look at the pick up today regarding the gear selection problem, i took the linkeage off at the gearbox and all gears select with a positive click and the pick up drives without jumping out of gear (at least the box is ok!) but as soon as you put it back together it jumps out 1st and third and these two gears dont seem to select properly. I have lubricated all the rose joints at the bulkhead, is there anything else that may cause this? Its driving me insane!!

Hi Peter, Can you tell me where the linkeage part that you are talking about is situated on the pick up, i have tried to find it but cant. Thanks.

Your Pick-Up is build on 06-1996.
The parts you need are: 7698391 and 82415465 (2X).
Mount it with a lot of (Teflon) grease, and use a new nylock nut to secure it, tighten this nut VERY carefully, to tight=heavy shifting, to loose means vibration noise....
I do have a picture of it all, but don't know how to post it here..???
Parts are very inexpensive (altough you may have to buy 5 of them in one package, policy of Fiat regarding small parts...!), but the bushing WILL corrode over the years and cause difficult shifting, because Fiat Brazil didn't grease it from new.....!!
Good luck.

Hi Peter, Still waiting for the bushes to arrive although i am having doubts about it being the problem. I have noticed on driving the pick up that it has a curious tendency to immediately jump out of third and fifth if you take a right turn but stays in firmly on a left turn, and if you change in to 1st 3rd or 5th gears whilst in the left turn it selects very positively and stays in as you would expect it to. Also if the pick up is sitting on a camber with drivers side lower than the passengers (right hand drive remember) it goes into gear with very little resistance compared to the opposite way (passenger side lower), otherwise on a flat surface it is reluctant to go in to 1st 3rd or 5th with feeling of it wanting to spring back compared with the other 2 gears which feel ok all the time. I am starting to think that maybe it could be the right hand engine mount that is worn causing excess movement of the engine/gearbox making it move accross on a right turn and effectively pulling the car out of gear? Also if you try to put it in to 1st, 3rd or fifth at a standstill you can see it pushing the engine to the right but there is no movement putting it in to 2nd or 4th, very strange. I am just about at the end of my wits with this one! surely someone must have ecountered this problem at some point. Raymie.
