I think its more to do with the gearing really, but its not a prob, its a nice relaxed cruiser, much more so than the 1.2 Corsa hire I'm driving at the mo:(

Lester, how do you find the 80? Have you compared it with the 115? Is it 5 or 6 speed?

Wish I had 6gears:(, my mates golf TDI130 has, and it really gives it the edge upto 60mph, also he can cruise at 70 with the revs under 2000[}:)]

cmc you are definitly right about the small difference between the 1.4 and 1.6.lets be real one car and only 9hp difference between two of its engines.just cant find a good enough reason to drop the 1.2.

james mine is 02model and has the 12v in the trunk.

stiloboy i dont think your car will die with an aircon.i've driven a daewoo matiz (which i personally doesnt count as a car,but many people dont think so). i think its engine was 800cc or so and it had aircon.it went good but the bloody thing is when you overtake somebody you should be getting your aircon off, otherwise you wont go more than 100kmh.

I remember getting link from this forum for the restyled stilo.than i first saw the changed rear lights of the 5dr and the changed bumpers of the 3dr.i saw the fiat website but i never found a changed bumpers of the 3dr.you know the very aggressive ones.[^]

It's the only Stilo I've driven, didn't have a choice as it's a Motability car.

It has a 5 speed. Only the 1.2 and 1.4 have 6 speeds I think.

I do a lot of short journeys in town and it's great not having to do lots of gear changes.

It's good on the motorway as well with lot's of overtaking power.

I haven't really looked at the revs versus mph at all, though my wife did ask one time why the car was becoming noisy. Cause I was doing 95mph :I. Normally she would have panicked if she had known what speed we were going at,she didn't notice.

I have added a Digital Powerbox to increase bhp/torque. It's a bit closer to yours now. ;)

Oi nowt wrong with the Matiz, my Wife has one, 800cc's of raw power! Its a nippy car, but when you turn the air con on its like loosing 5bhp instantly! And seeing as the wee car only has 50bhp to start with thats a considerable drop! With air con off the car can drive up long steep hills on motorway without loosing speed, if you turn the air con on your doing 50mph max by the time you reach the top! ;)

2003 3 Door Stilo 1.2 Active, Sassy Grey, plastic wheel trims - and 43mpg average so far. Love it, Oh yes!

And if you ever decide your Matiz IS too slow, you can just pop it in the boot of your Stilo:D

Lester, thats the beauty of diesel, loads of torque, so not much need for gear changes:D

It really pulls up the hills too:D

Is the powerbox a plug in thing? could it be easily removed for insurance/warranty purposes, do they do one for mine[?]

Nah remember i've only got a 3dr Stilo, i'd definately need to sliding seats of the 5dr to fit a Matiz in the boot! But with the multiwagon i could just get some ramps and drive the matiz right into the back! :p

You might not like this but the boot in the Matiz is only slightly smaller than the Stilo 3dr and there is more room in the back of the Matiz for 2 Passengers than there is in the back of the 3dr Stilo! [:0]

And the Stilo is head and sholders taller than the Matiz, which looks a very tall car! I actually like the Matiz, i would have got one myself only it would have been questionable having 2 Matiz' on the drive and i always look a bit daft driving the wife's Matiz! I look too big for it, although i'm always amazed how i can just jump right in, adjust nothing and drive off straight away!

Anyhoo, what was this topic about again..... oh yes... i see they've changed the Fiat website.... yeah its a scandal, they've dropped the 1.2! :p :I

Stiloboy, I have no problem believing the matiz is nearly as roomy for two in the back, the third might find it a little cramped though;)

I was very surprised when you said about boot space though, the matiz IS tiny! So being a bit sad I looked it up....

Stilo 3dr - 305Litres
Matiz - 104Litres - Smaller than a Sei!

I got this from an old Top Gear mag, but if I'm wrong I will stand corrected:D

Anyway, what was I gonna say, oh yeah 2Matiz's? One for each foot?

Im not saying there bad, just that I reckon the Stilo is a much more stylish choice;)

I do know where your coming from about the 'get in a drive' thing tho, I can just jump in my GF's micra, slide the seat back and away, where as if I get in the Stilo after her its a full 5mins of adjustment[}:)]

Lester, right, sorry but I have many questions for you about this power box thing!

I looked on the website and it seems quite impressive but:

How much difference in performance did you notice?
Any difference in economy?
Did you fit it yourself?
Did you tell your insurance[?][?][?]
Do you take it off when your car goes in for servicing?

Also, I know there are other options, such as Angel tuning, which are probably better by nature, but are much more perminant, is this why you went for this option instead?

Like I said, sorry for all the [?]

I noticed the torque increase straight away. My son also noticed, he asked was I thinking of doing some towing. :)
I'm trying to find a K&N filter kit so I can unleash some more power as the box has 3 settings but you need a filter kit to use them.

I don't know about economy as I fitted the box a few days after getting the car. I am getting 45mpg round town in my short 2 mile journeys though.

It's simple to fit,it just plugs into your injectors and battery.

Insurance? :I:)

Yes, I remove it if the car ever goes near the dealer.

I chose this as it's a brand new car and wanted to be able to standardize the car easily.

I just cannot understand why diesels get much much more HPs with chip tunings than the petrol ones?
