Hi all,

i am a new member here. So bare with me if I am not so good in the subject. I owe a fiat uno and I am starting to re-condition it from its present state. I am trying to find the console where the stereo fits at the bottom as the present one is made out of plastic and it is too noisy and flimsy. Do you have any ideas where I can get one over the net maybe or any store you know about?

Thanks to all

Hello Chris - welcome to the forum!

The first thing that came to mind for me when I read your post was, my centre console broke at the hole where the stereo fits - I repaired it with fibre-reinforced filler. You can fill the space around the edge on the inside and it makes the console much stronger. Not too pretty from the back side, but the repair was very effective and my stereo no longer shakes up and down.

When you put the metal stereo sleeve in, use foam tape to make it a tight, rattle-free fitting.

Otherwise, to get a replacement from someone breaking (stripping) an Uno, you'll have to know the model. There are several console types that I know of:

- 'Mk1' (1984-1989) 'Basic' - sliding knobs for heater, stereo hangs at the bottom, nothing below (or on early Uno models, electric window switches attached to the bottom) - available in black or brown

- Mk1 Turbo (1986-1988) - console is similar but extended to meet with tray in front of gearlever
- Mk1 Turbo (1988) - may be the same as above or may be different width at the bottom, I'm not sure, because gearlever console is wider

- Mk2 (1989-1994) - has turning knobs for heater, available in black and brown, I think all models the same but not sure, Turbo may be different

That should give you something to start with - probably the best way is to take a picture and use that to check you're getting the right one. I think you'll be able to repair it, though.

Cheers,
-Alex
