Technical Fiat uno Gear selector problems

Hi all my uno turbo ie mk2 has allot of play on the gear selector . years back a man welded it for me but still has allot of play. what could be the problems the bushes or the actual gear lever?

Underneath the car, on the steering rack housing, there's a diamond-shaped link with three balljoints. They're probably stuffed. There are also two longer links across to the gearbox. The longer links can be remade easily (new M6 rod end bearings on threaded rod) but the diamond-shaped link is more of a challenge. You might try three rose joints joined together.
