Technical Fiat stilo oil change

Hi guys
Just about to do an oil change on my Fiat Stilo 1.4 16v (for the first time now that it is out of warranty). But would appreciate some info before starting:-
- scrabbling about under the car without it up on the jack or ramps the sump plug doesn't seem to be immediately obvious, but I have located what looks like maybe 12mm plug head at the rear of the sump (looking from the front of the car) - does this sound about right?
- the oil filter didn't come with a copper sealing for the sump plug - is this correct?
- Halfords oil guide says fully synthetic, but I notice that previous dealer services used semi synthetic (Texaco) - does it make much difference/is there any preference?

12 mm allen key is correct for the drain plug, oil filter has a rubber oil seal on it, and iirc 5w -40 selenia performa oil is the oil for the 1.4 16v

Seeing as you are saving a pile of coppers by staying away for the main stealer i'd use the best oil I could get my hands on. Most people rate the Selena stuff but personally i'd use the Fuchs Titan Supersyn 5w / 40 fully synthetic.

If you run the car on extended service intervals then synthetic is the way to go as it will stay stable for longer expecially if you have a heavy right foot. I use Fuchs Titan XTR in my Marea 130 which is a semi, but just change the oil every 6000 miles.

Oil choise is like tyre choice........each has their own favorite!! give www.opieoils.co.uk a try, i always find them reasonable.
