Hey guys, has anyone got any idea what this strange noise could be coming from under the bonnet of my Seicento Sporting, it tends to be when im going at a slow speed or coming to a stop, its only started this past couple of days (since my mother drove it "/)
Its like a scrapping noise but tends to get louder at times.

Im thinking of getting rid of it now ive had way too many problems with it and spent so much more on it that the actual car is worth, it seems ridiculous to spend anymore.

Any feedback would be great.

Thankyou

Sarah :slayer:

Might be something simple like a stone stuck in by a brake disc. Does it make any unusual noises when the vehicle is stationary with the engine running? Try jacking the front of it up and rotate the wheels, do they rotate freely without any noise or wobble?

No its fine when stood, Ive been having problems getting it in reverse without it crunching also, I don't know if this would be part of the same problem...

Its like its rubbing on something and the noise gets louder at times, its only occurred in the last couple of days.

Trouble getting into reverse could be clutch or clutch cable related, is it only reverse you have trouble getting into? Does the scraping noise show itself in reverse as well as forward gears? Which forward gears do you hear it in or is it all gears at low revs/low speed? How old is the car and how many miles are on it? Might be gearbox oil needs changing if it's quite high mileage.

Well ive recently had a new clutch cable fitted as it went and it only crunches when im putting it in reverse, im not sure if the noise occurs while in reverse as I know it hasn't done so far.
I don't have to be in a gear for it to make the noise I took it out of gear and just rolled down a hill and it was scraping.
The cars V reg and it has done a few fair miles bless it.
Ive had so much done to it now tho its getting rather silly
Ill see about the gearbox oil, is this a simple procedure?

Ok, a couple of points:
  1. If the clutch cable's gone recently, that's normally a sign that the clutch itself is on the way out so I'd be looking to get that done - should solve the crunching gear
  2. Gearbox oil is easily changed (pretty sure there's a guide on here somewhere) am at work though so don't have the time to explain the process right now ;)
  3. If the noise is still there when the car is rolling out of gear it's not going to be a gearbox or even an engine issue - I'm still going back to either a simple stone in the brakes or a bearing on the way out.
Seriously, jack up the front end and see if there is any play in the wheels (hold them top and bottom and try and shake them, they should be solid - if not, the bearings are shot and need replaced). If that's ok, just try rotating the wheels and see if the scraping noise is still apparent, if it is it's almost bound to be either a stone or a stuck piston. The wheel should rotate quite easily, if not piston is likely. Let us know how you get on with that and we'll see if anyone else has any suggestions in the meantime :)

Ritey oh thank you for the advice im sure it will be helpful, im glad its not a gearbox issue, hope not anyway.
Yeah ill go have a look at it now, will let you know how it goes.

Thank again :)

Think its the brake pad thats worn and rubbing onto the disc thing, just took it on to the garage so should be sorted soon, woop!

never had a reverse problem in any of the 3 fiats ive owned.... adjust your clutches or stop before selecting reverse!

Yep. Remember there's no syncro on reverse. Stop, count to 3, pop it in. On Cinqs the detente cable can give problems, but it's often down to the clutch cable needing adjustment.

As to the noise, front brake pads is my best guess. Look at in now or the disks will get buggered.

Yup booked in tomorrow now :) getting it sorted asap :)
Cheers guys!

Hi everyone
Im new to this and know nothing about cars and desperately need help! Just read about a scraping noise so thought id ask about mine. I have a Fiat Seicento old X reg. It started when i was pushing the accellerator pedal in 1st gear foot off clutch ready to push the clutch to change to 2nd, it was a horrendous scraping noise. Then it happened in different gears. However, it doesnt happen all the time?? garage did a road test but it wasnt making the noise at the time - typical! He said is that CLutch burn i can smell? then didnt say anything else about that, but no noise. The scraping worries me as im always on the motorway and i dont want to break down! Ive just spent £88 for windscreen wiper problem im skint and dreading how much this will cost but it needs sorting. Can anyone help? ive heard a lot about clutches and stones getting stuck, break pads etc

Hi there,

I have a small problem with my electrics.

It’s started few days ago basically as soon as I start engine in morning no blinkers or emergency light works.

Only ER and blinker but all rest works fine, then after a good few minutes all seams to get back to normal and then back again so I can’t really drive.

Can you help me and let me know how can I fix it rather than going to garage and paying most probably £50-£100... :bang:

clean up the connectors on the lights and earths as in some sense its a common problem with abit of corrosion on the pins

That sound like the relay. Mine did the same thing when damp and cold. It´s located in the fuse box inside the car. It´s the black square one if I remember correctly. Take it out or just wiggle it in a little. Carefull if removing it. Remember the way it goes.
