hi guys im new to this so need as much help as possible!!!!I have a punto gt 1995 gt1 its been lovely until now it has high oil pressure is this bad???it usually goes up to 3 bar at start up then once warmed it goes down to half way then when driving bk to 3 but never goes over!now it goes up to 3 wen started then drops to a quarter the about a bar over when driving it quiker than normal lets say 70 mph is this some thing to worry about??iv replaced the oil nd filter cleaned all the breather out but no change I even turnt it over with no oil in nd it sat on 0 so im sure the gauge works any ideas???need help ASAP pleeeease

Turning the engine over with no oil in it isn't exactly wise. The pressure sensor can be tested or substituted.

I know that it was for a spilt second!!ok ill try that but could it be oil pressure valve?as iv seen a few people comment about that??really doing my head in lol

all sounds about right to me really although quarter on the gauge is a little low, oil pressure is much lower when idling but should go up around top of gauge at all other times - but oil pressure is good, you want it up at 3 when driving about, you want to worry when your driving along and you don't have pressure.

Oh right its just it changed from staying at 3 bar wen driving at 70- 120 but now its going up to 4 bar wen im at 50 surely that aint good ??!!nd wen i said quater i ment that is wen shes idling!!it use to drop to half on idle!!!so why the drematic change??i was told by my m8 whos a mecanic too much is also bad?

Yes. Try an oil flush. Dump the oil, bin the filter. Fill with a flushing oil, fit new filter. Follow the instructions to the letter. Dump flushing oil, bin filter. Refill with fully synthetic of your choice, new filter.

See if there's any difference. If not, try a new sensor (they're cheap enough). Report back.

Hi m8!iv tryed everything now evern cleaning the oil pressure valve nd no change lol so last resort is the switch all thought i took the swith of nd use a proper oil pressure meter nd it was reading the same but i can try !!could it be the gauge on my speedo ??maybe its faulty???thanks for the help so far i really want to keep it but am starting to hace douts

Seems to me there is a lack in basic understanding here.

High oil pressure is not a problem, these engines actually operate around 6bar under load but the gauge only reads to 3. So under any type of acceleration the gauge should be planted to 3 bar.

The only time the oil pressure gauge should not be right at the top on 3 bar is after the car is warm and the oil has thinned. On idle. This can drop to as low as 1 bar but on a healthy engine should still be 1.5 to 2.5 bar.

High oil pressure isn't a problem within reason.

mine reads 3 on warm up!!!just under half on idle!!when booting it about a bar over 3 bar thats ok??nd everything means iv done a complete oil change filter the lot + flush threw cleaned oil pressure valve but no change!!
