Hi all,

I have a mk2 Fiat punto and have decided my girlfriend can get me some new speakers for xmas.

However, ive never bought speakers before and need help. Ive seen alot of threads that mention Depth - i dont have a clue, id like to plug n play...

I also fancy some speakers for the rear of my car as people have complained they cant hear music when sat in the back lol.

Could you let me know if i could simply fit these without having to fiddle.

For the rear i was thinking of getting parcel shelf speakers (i know il have to cut holes)

Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately modern cars standard speaker setups are actually quite well designed. Bearing this in mind i always like to suggest that you cannot make a vast improvment by simply changing the speakers.

You would have to install them properly and the 49mm depth is an issue. Unfortunately i have never fitted speakers into a MK2 Punto and those who have seem to be very frugal at relaying how they have done it.

To make an improvment you will need an aftermarket Head Unit and at least a small amplifier. You should build a baffle for the front speakers as they need a solid environment to reproduce good sound. Then you really aught to sound deaden the panels.
Think of it this way a small speaker with small power in a house can be very loud as it is in a solid environment. A car is made from thin metal which isnt a solid environment so when we install audio properly, we try and recreate the properties of the house the best we can.

OK so that is the boring stuff out of the way.

If you are going to put rear speakers in the car then yes 6x9's can be an effective way of getting volume for very little cost although the quality is very much compromised.
The quality of them can be improved by building an MDF parcel shelf. I have done this in the MK2 and it is as simple as drawing around the old one and cuting out the shape. At most you would have to plain a few small areas.

Let us know if you need any further help. Oh and avoid halfords lol.

Thanks for the reply.

I was looking at a head unit aswell. I had this 1 in mind

My budget is around £200 - £250 and this is for speakers and headunit.

I dont know what you mean by bulild a baffle? Ive seen pictures where they stand out from the door - Ideally id like the speakers to stay in the door?

Also, how would i go about sound proofing the doors?

Im only looking for items on halfords - then when i know what i want id look for cheaper online.

I dont have a probem building the parcel shelf, thanks for that.

'thanks for help

The stuff that they sell in halfords is far from good.

Have a look at car audiosecurity.com and caraudiodirect.co.uk. These are well respected retailers. Both are owned and run by caraudio enthusiasts. Halfords sell cheap products at a premium price. The above audio resellers also have shops so they can offer a full warranty unlike ebay sellers and other online retailers.

These will go in the front with minimal effort.

If you go for components you will have the high range much closer to you so will get a much better sound. This is how the punto is a standard so there is already place for the tweeters.

Then you have the decision. You have a small car so if you spend the right amount of money on the front, then it will travel to the back perfectly well. This means that you as the driver will always have a nice quality sound, staged correctly.
So you would need an amp like

Or you can install quality stealing 6x9's and have all of the music come from the rear which is not good.

A HU like this.

Thanks, Expensive stuff when you get it all..

I think after xmas il start with speakers, i like the 1s you linked although im not sure what all the parts that come with it are lol.

Im also going to invest in a new head unit. Maybe then save for an amp.

Sound deading seems expensive so i think il give that a miss.

Thanks
