Fiat Punto Selecta 1242cc M Reg Electromagnetic clutch brushes. The brushes are worn and Fiat tell me the brush carrier assembly is no longer available "tough".
In theory this means a perfectly good car with 64K on the clock is scrap, all for a couple of bits of carbon. Does anybody know if they are available elsewhere?
Also the part no of the original assembly is 7750667 c2009 mod but there is another part no. on the list directly under this, 46440859 d2009 mod. The parts dept at Worcester said this was a later version but couldn't tell me whether it would fit. Not returnable if bought and at over 100 notes too riskky.
Does any one know if this part is interchangable with the original?
Fingers crossed,
Graham

put a parts wanted add up for ones for a panda, i think early ones are same as panda. i still looking for ones i have/had from an m reg if/when i find them they be free just postage.
i think only difference from the 2 is the plug
Thanks Dave, I appreciate it. I wouldn't expect free although that's very kind. May be a few pints (unless you're tt). Please email if poss as it's easier for me.
Best Regards,
Graham.
I've since had a good look and although the brushes are worn the main prob is leaking rear crank seal soaking the brushes in Engine oil. I really will appreciate the brushes tho as there's not a lot of life in them left. (just like me, tee hee)

what ever you do, dont buy second hand, its not worth bothering.

otherwise, if you can drive manual convert it to manual? cheaper and easier to find parts than fixing the auto.
Many thanks for replying. I'd thought of doing that but erindors loves her automatic, still it's an option. i don't mind 2nd hand brushes as you can see them but I agree I wouldn't buy 2nd hand auto box. Regards,
Graham

are they past the wear line? there should be a grove in each one thats the line it has to get to before replacing.

you are doing well if you have worn them out, they normally last longer than the powder clutch and gearbox
hello Dave, No, there's plenty of meat left but one has worn more than the other by about 1/4 ". Being a "be prepared" type of person (wasa a scout). I thought i'd rather sort it out now rather than later.
The initial cause of the car losing drive was oil leaking from engine being picked up by the Flywheel and soaking the brushes in oil.(i hope)
Cheers, Graham

Hi ,
There are millions of electric motors out there, using brushes--surely there would be a match with what we would require. If a pic of some is available, perhaps similar ones could be sourced----or a part number to cross reference.
