Thanks (y)

My Punto needs a new thermostat, but when i have replaced it do i then need to get air out of the cooling system? (bleeding the cooling system?)

And what way would you recommend?

I found this is this the right way. do the engine have to be cold or warm?

  • Undo both screws
  • Fill header tank right to the top
  • Squeeze all the hoses
  • Keep repeating this until a fair amount of coolant is coming out of both bleed screws
  • Do up the back one
  • Keep squeezing hoses so coolant keeps coming out of the radiator bleed screw until the coolant is at max
  • Do up screw (do he mean the radiator bleed screw?)
  • Replace radiator cap ( Is it the header tank cap he means? )
  • Run engine until fan comes on
  • Let it cool for a couple of hours
  • Finally, check the level and top up to max if needed.

Hope You can help me? :)

Good Day to all.

Thanks again!!

So what i have written in black is right?

And do the engine have to be cold ? or warm ?
:)

bleed it cold.
Once your done, let it run upto operating temperature and check for leaks etc around connection (particularly the ones you have undone while doing thermostat).

Then check the coolant level once it has cooled right back down to room temp. Bearing in mind the level will go up a little bit as it gets hot so it wants to be no higher than max line when hot (so bit below max when cold but not below min line). DO NOT take the cap off when it is hot or you will get very hot water all over you, system is under pressure when hot. ;)

Its good practice to check the level weekly to check it doesn't go down indicating a leak or other issue.

Thanks again (;

I think i got i now :)

Just to be sure.

First i Open all screws DO I HAVE TO SCREWS THEM ALL THE WAY OUT OR ONLY A LITTLE OUT?

Then open Header tank and fill it over max.

Then i squeeze all rubber tubes

Then i keep doing it to there is coming water out of both screws.

Then i close the screw there is behind the engine

Then i squeeze again until there is coming water out of the radiator screw and til the water in the header tank is at max then i close the radiator screw

Then i put the header tank cap on and tightens it.

Then i run the engine and when the fan begins

then i stop the engine and wait for it to cools

And then refil the header tank if it under max ?

did i get it right ? (y)

Or did i get it wrong (n)

Good day
:)

your just about there.. Just the level at the end - it should be between max and min when hot and when cold basically. It will go up a bit with heat so once you have been through a warm up and cool down it should be near the max line but not on or over it. You can then check when its at operating temp that its not overfilled.

If you find it overfilled let it cool down and take out the rad bleed screw and let some water out from there, this way you won't get any air back in the system so no need to bleed the other screw for this.
