Hi Guys,

New here but looking to stick around.. bought a new car the other day for a laugh, booked a week off work to mess around with it.. could do with a bit of help though!

I have no idea what type of oil it needs.. it's a fuel injection if that makes a difference. The oil light occasionally comes on, checked it earlier and could do with being topped up.

Any ideas?

Thanks

15w-40 semi synthetic is what you need. Might be a good idea to do a full oil and filter change if it hasn't been done for a while.

I'd beg to differ and advise you use 10w-40 although there wouldn't be any problem with you used the other type.

What mileage has the car done?

Oh, and welcome to FF

Jon.

Haynes says 15w-40 and so does Comma. But as you say it shouldn't make much difference anyway, I am running mine with 15w-40 no problems.

Its done 110,000 so far - could be worse i guess. The engine sounds real clean, just a bit worried about the random lights that keep popping up telling me to check the oil etc.
Thanks though guys - i'll get onto it right away.
The car hasn't even got a name yet - eep!

Oh and hi, I'm Danielle

Hiya Danielle, yep choose from 15w-40 or 10w-40. The beginning number only means anything when the engine is cold anyways (y)

That mileage is nothing to worry about, still another 140k+ in the engine (y)

Best top the oil up if it is low though. What are the other lights coming on

Jon.

I think it's the light to tell you the engine is over heating.. it was only on the motorway so i'm not entirely bothered just yet. Managed to get the car up to 85mph before the steering wheel/car started shaking lol thought i best slow down.

That could be it yea - i tried to look for it online but couldnt find it. Sorry to sound like a right idiot here, i mainly know motorbikes.
But yea - is part synthetic the same as semi?

For Gods sake check the water!

Panda shouldn't go over 90 on temp gauge before the fan kicks in.
So leave it ticking over, watch the gauge and check the cooling fan cuts in.

If its overheating and the fan doesn't kick in, change the thermostat and check radiator temp switch, check the waterpump is pushing water round otherwise it will probably blow headgasket.

Happy Days!

Gotcha.. ok, i've got some work to do! Off to halfords now - expensive i know but i've got about £300 in vouchers for them from a tornament.

And yes, a biker chick haha i've also got a 2002 black punto and a 2002 black Honda Hrv. This car started as a joke but damn, i love it!

I expect so, yes

Jon could be right with the injection light, maybe to much air on a motorway run at those sort of speeds.
