I'm looking to fit one, I've read up on how to fit them, looked under the blank to find I don't have the white connector there! Is there a way to put one on or at least find the possible connector without taking up the entire inside?

If the connector IS there, it doesn't mean it's connected to the fuse box the other end, some have them connected, some don't!

Are you trying to power a device or light your rollies?
Here's a 12v power kit, it's not it light your fags.

Most get fitted in the glove box, the wire through the bulkhead, there are a few holes/grommets to feed the wires through, then on to the battery.

Take off centre console 4 bolts 2 at front 1 at rear 1 under handbrake. White connector on mine was well tucked under carpet. Check for fuse 85 first yellow 10amp. Try multimeter on white socket for power. Remember to do this with ignition on. Should read about 12.6 volts. If all this ok go to fiat dealer buy plate and power kit £24.99 and fit in 5 minutes. There is a guide on here

I managed to find the cigarette lighter plug, sadly, there is no wire running from the center console relay up to the fuse box, so no power

Guess I should have joined this forum before trying to add bits to my '56 1.1 Active.
If anyone wants an accessory socket and panel for the price of a pint or two, I've have now discovered my fusebox/relay panel isn't wired. I will have a closer look under the fuse panel, but it's not looking good so far.
So, in the event I have to wire in a 'free' socket, anyone give me a clue as to where there is access through the bulkhead (firewall to those across the pond). I also need this info to fit some of my amateur (ham) radio gear... With duff knees and a bad back grovelling around on the ground is not something to be undertaken for long periods!

Take it off of the head unit feed and you should be fine for what you need (y)

Good thought for the accessory socket. I'll have a look at that, thanks.
Unfortunately, for the amateur radio kit I need to get direct onto the battery. At full power this kit can peak at 22A, though I tend to run it at reduced power in modern cars, don't want r.f. getting into the car's "brain"... :)

My daughters car had this problem as it is a basic 1.1. She bought a FIAT 12v unit on eBay for about £20 and connected it up to the factory fitting. Nothing. An auto-electrician charge £50 + vat=£60 to connect it all up via a wire with a 20 amp in-line fuse as well to the ignition.
Not bad, Works great. She also has a radio-cassette! Yes a radio-cassette!
Added a cassette to iPod connector for £5/88p. Works wonderfully.

a 20 amp fuse

That's not going to prevent a fire I'd have thought (n)

Cig lighter sockets should be fused and wired for 20Amps, any lower and you almost guarantee at some point in the future someone is going plug a frigde or compressor in that draws big current and either pop the fuse or burns under rated wiring out

I've always thought they're a lot lower, at about 7 or 10 amp normally

I bought the 12v socket from Fiat. I already had a 20 amp fuse in F85 and the White connector where it should have been on the end of the wiring loom under the centre console. It was a really easy fit, but I was gutted to find no power. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get it working?

I removed my standard issue lighter socket, made up a matching plate in pseudo carbon fibre, and drilled and fitted two lighter sockets side by side - both wired into the original harness.

Modern vehicles need several sockets, not just one.
On my upmarket motor I have a bank of three, plus a usb socket, and one in the rear.

Hi guys - my first post - hope it works

We have a 59 Panda 1.1

It has the white socket but not even a space for fuse 85 and no power with ignition on.

My idea before I read this thread was to tap off the Radio/CD Player with a light in-line fuse and put the cigar lighter in the little pocket above the radio in a case. It's only use would be for satnav.

I took the radio out expecting it to be simple as it was when the Smith's Radiomobile had a simple red and black wire going into it.

Even the marking on the back is alien.

Anyone know which two wires are the main power feed and return ?

Hi everyone - stand down, I believe I have sorted it myself with a bit of help re ISO connectors from WIKI.

I'll post more when I have a bit more time

OK people, I’ve had the radio out again and been using my test meter.

To recap – this is in pursuit of my desire to fit a cigar lighter in the cubby hole above the Radio/CD for light duty supplying just a SatNav.

This is my plan. I have not done it yet, and if anyone does the same I take no responsibility for any problems that arise.

First – I aim to tap off the main power feeds to the radio using clip-on IDC connectors so that I do not have to break the connection to the radio.

To do this I have identified which leads I am going to try. The radio/cd is marked BLAUPUNKT FIAT 189 CD-PANDA.

On top it has a key to the connectors on the rear. We are interested in Connector A (which is integral with B)

The two wires I am going to tap onto are:-

GND – black – being ground or –ve

UB – red/black – being +ve, unswitched battery.

This will entail winding back the furry sticky wrapping material a short distance.

Immediately after tapping into the red/black cable I will have an in-line fuseholder for a 1¼ inch glass fuse holding a 2A fuse.

I’m not getting into the mechanics – it will use scraps that I have.

For interest, it appears that the +15 connector only comes live when the ignition is on and is a thin wire.

The ILL connector (presumably for display illumination) only comes on when ignition and lights are on..

All the above results are with the radio in-situ.

Hope other find this helpful.

R

PS - I was wrong - I do have a space for F85, but I think there is only a connector at one end, and none in the adjoining relay socket position. Oh how the Fiat designers must laugh !
