He is talking rubbish whether he knows it or not.
The kits are good OEM stuff every bit as good as original.
If he moves sensors from old to new he WILL break them.
Also he will break your brake lines.
If he won't do the bearings bring it to someone who
will... Otherwise it will end up unnecessarily expensive.

The garage owner was quite certain if I replaced just the bearings, they wouldn't last beyond 3 months. Can you tell me what you mean by; 'If he moves sensors from old to new' please. I am hoping that now I've let him know I can't afford new ABS sensors & I'm aware they could break if if replaces the arms, he'll tell his mechanic to be extra careful! If they do break I will remind him of our conversation.
No-one yet has mentioned the brake lines!! S**t....more money??

Saying the arms must be changed instead of just the bearings is pure nonsense.

It would be like replacing your wheels every time you had new tyres, or fitting a new tank every time you filled up with fuel

The seals, bolts and bearings may wear out, and the kit replaces all those.
The arm itself should last indefinitely, as long as it's not corroded.
