Can anyone please help me. Fiat Multipla with 106k on the clock has never let me down since ive owned it. Its our main work horse and ferries the kids around every day hence my annoyance when it failed to start this morning. My wife took it out as normal and came home. I then went out to start it up and it failed to start. Car turns over as normal but fails to fire. Immobiliser all seems to be ok as per manual. Glow plug light doesnt come on at all, cant say ive ever known it to (i think bulb may have gone?). Ive had a look online and people make reference to crank sensor, although i have never had problems with it cutting out at all and even now after it has cooled down it still refuses to catch and fire. Had green flag out who just scratched his head to be honest. I did tell him about crank sensor but he ruled this out when he plugged his diagnostic machine in which gave a reading when the car turned over so he said that this was fine. He also ruled out fuel problems in the same way. Only thing he could think of was the cam sensor which as he told me i could see £$£$£ signs. Can anyone help with anything i could check as im not afraid to get my hands dirty and dont fancy getting ripped off at my local garage. Crate of beer to anyone who can diagnose correctly lol...

Did he retrieve any fault codes??
Id imagine if the cam sensor were failing he would have a definite fault code pointing in that direction.
Cam sensor (if it is that) is about 50 quid i think but a bit of work to get to it..may aswell change cambelt while your there but thats your choice depending on mileage etc

Had a TDC (top dead centre) sensor go on my 156 JTD. It didn't pull up any fault codes as far as I know - certainly it took some diagnosing as it was an intermittent fault - in the end it started about half the time, and you could bump start it the rest of the time.

The replacement part was £25, and it's just a case of unplugging one and plugging another in. That was the sensor for a 2.4, about 4 years ago, so might be slightly different now, but certainly not a massive cost.

Hopefully that's all it is.

Does the immobiliser (yellow key?) symbol stay on the dash or does it go out?
