Hello. I'm a newcomer to this forum. I have a Marea 2 litre ELX. First registered 1999. Had it for three years. It's always had a very slight gearbox whine but this has become more noticeable in recent weeks. Car has 50000 miles on the clock. Is the gearbox on this model prone to whine?. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Manual/Auto?

I believe 50000 is about the time that the gearbox oil should be changed. Is the noise constant, only when you start off/change gear etc..?

My dads Marea makes the same noise. He thinks maybe the cluch is Knackered and the fingers of the cluch pressure plate is rubbing on the release bearing. Its a hydrulic cluch on them so the slightest movement on the clutch pedal will b greatly amplified at the clutch side so if you ride the cluch or rest your foot on the pedal, it may wear out quicker.
At 50000 i would have thought the gear box would be ok unless its had a hard life (y)

Thanks both for your replies. It's manual. The noise is fairly constant, maybe more so when coming down the gears. Yes, I am guilty of resting my foot on the clutch pedal so this could be a reason ! That'll teach me! I've booked the car in to have the gearbox lubricant changed, so I'll wait and see if this helps.
