Hi. Like most people that join a forum, I do so due to having a problem. I recently bough a 2004 Fiat Idea. Quirky look car but it was cheap and I needed something for work.

It was a garage PX for £490. I drove it home without fault, put it in for an MOT and it passed with just a few advisories for age related corrosion.

The front passenger seat folds flat which is handy when carrying longer items. However, it has a couple of electrical faults. It had a sensor fault for parking sensors but has now developed two more issues. Headlights come on when indicating left and both 12v sockets have stopped working. Also tonight, dash lights go on and off.

Earth fault maybe? If so, where do I check please?

Hello,

FIATs are know for having earthing problems and rotten (on the inside) earth cables, so yes, that could be the cause.

Those are the earthing points for the 2004 model:

Here are the power supply lines:

As for the 12V sockets:

Functional description

The current socket/cigar lighter P50 and the one of the tunnel P51 are supplied by the line controlled by the ignition (INT/A) of relay T12 protected by fuse F44, both contained in the unit under the dashboard B2.

Lighting for cigar lighter P50 is activated by Body Computer M1 - pin 40 of connector E.

The rear current socket P52 is supplied by the line controlled by relay T13 and protected by fuse F44, both contained in the junction unit under the dashboard B2.

The services relay T13 is energized with the logic described above and controlled by the Body Computer M1 pin 14 of connector F.

As both of them are not working and both are protected by the F44 fuse, check it first. Then, if that won't help, I'd check B001, B002 and M001 plugs and sockets. Some oxidation there could also be the cause of the two other symptoms you have.

That's the location of the elements of the whole system.

Can you also please modify the title of the post so it would be easier to find the materials I've posted later on?
