Hello,

I have looked and looked and I couldn't find this particular swap.

I'm thinking about buying 1.9 Td (60kW / 81hp). Either 1990 with a good engine or 1995 with a head blown.

Has anyone tried to swap 1.9 Td to a 2.5 Td (70kW/94hp or 85kW/114hp)? Would 2.5 85kW fit into the first gen Ducato?

Additional details:

Current engine
1929 TD
Fiat 280A10001929 ccSOHC 8vIndirect injection82 PS (60 kW; 81 hp) at 4100 rpm181 N⋅m (133 lb⋅ft) at 2500 rpm
Or

1.9 TD1
Fiat 230A30001,929 ccSOHC 8vIndirect injection82 PS (60 kW; 81 hp) @ 4,200 rpm180 N⋅m (133 lb⋅ft) @ 2,500 rpm1994–1999

Looking to swap into:
2.5 TDI1
Iveco 8140.472,500 ccSOHC 8vDirect injection116 PS (85 kW; 114 hp) @ 3,800 rpm245 N⋅m (181 lb⋅ft) @ 2,000 rpm1994–1998
Or
2500 TD
Sofim 8140.272500 ccSOHC 8vDirect injection95 PS (70 kW; 94 hp) at 3800 rpm216 N⋅m (159 lb⋅ft) at 2000 rpm

2.5 or 2.8 Sofim only will work if from a front wheel drive vehicle i.e. Fiat Ducato , Citroen Relay or Renault Master (not Renault Mascot as rear wheel drive the same as Iveco Daily) reason being the sump and lower half of engine crank/bearing carrier is different due to the Daily and Mascot etc. sit vertically being RWD where as the others have the engine inclined/leaning back and fitted transverse for FWD.
Reason I know this is I have had several Iveco Daily's and one Fiat Ducato 2.8 Maxi van that I used the engine for a boat.
My choice if possible to get would be a 1998 Ducato engine and gearbox etc. as last of the pre ECU turbo intercooled engines which came standard at approx. 122Hp and could be adjusted at the turbo and the Bosch injector pump to increase power further. In my boat I replaced the original 3.75 litre V6 Buick/Volvo Penta 150Hp with the Sofim and after much adjustment got nearly the same performance but with less the half the fuel use;)

No the engines and gearboxes are very different.

Follow advice given by @bugsymike

Ideally pick up a Sofim engined 2.5 or 2.8 version Ducato to start with.
If you go online Fiat Ducato in wikipedia you will see all the versions and capacities that were originally built as a guide.

But do you know if all the engine mounts are the same or will they need to be modified?

The engine mounts, gearbox mounts, drive shafts, exhaust system , air filter, fuel lines, electrical system, all different .

Huge undertaking to change from the 1.9 to the sofim engine. The engine blocks are totally different, made by different people.

If you have lots and lots of money it is possible ....otherwise do not try.

Thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed to know
