hi all , just new to the forum , i have a 06 fiat uylasse and it keeps showing an air bag fault code p0c04 passenger airbag explosive charge 2nd stage perminant fault , i have tried clearing it but it keeps coming back ,does anyone know which part this refers to.
all help appreciated

some cars (like yours) have multi stage air bag systems in a light accident might deploy the first stage which will deploy the bag to a smaller size or if you are sitting close to the dash it might also deploy the first stage only.

heavy accidents or sitting way back away from the dash might deploy a second stage usually involving a second more powerful explosive charge to deploy the bag which breaks stitching and allowing to bag to inflate much larger than with the first stage.

this is all controlled electronically by the airbag ECU and you'll be sorry to hear 1st and 2nd stage charges are built into the airbag so....
you need a new passenger side airbag.

WARNING DOING THIS COULD SERIOUSLY DAMAGE YOUR WEALTH!!!!!

having looked around at the various things that could be wrong with the cars wiring i did a few test and found the airbag resistance is 2.3 ohms,i traced the wiring back to the airbag ecu and disabled the two airbag circuits substituting them with two 5 ohm resistors wired in parralell to give approx 2.5 ohms and it cured the light staying on ............all off......
then traced the harness to a broken cable behind the carpet a quick soldered joint and hey presto fixed!!!!!!!1
ok i should say im an auto electrician so had a bit of knowledge behind me (lol)
DONT TRY THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING ....
PS THE DEALERS WANTED £865 PLUS VAT AND £20HRS LABOUR FOR REPLACING THE WIRING HARNESS...
HAVE FUN.:)

totally agree, it should never be done !!!! but apparently the internal resistance of an airbag is 2.3 ohms. you can also use a fuse with a cold flow resistance of 2.3 ohms, the cooper busman glass bodied 0.25 inch x1.25 inch 0.25Amp has an internal resistance of 2.3 ohms and could also be used to substitute an air bag
and will blow if the airbags are triggered in a crash
these are just observations and in no way should be tested out by unqualified personnel.theybare just for testing and not a fix.:)
