I'm off again to the Goodwood Revival this year and decided to take a set of overalls for the Sunday, rather than drive home in my WWII uniform. Does anyone have any pictures of Fiat or Abarth mechanics back in the day, so I can work out what badges I can get and where to put them, to try and make them look authentic.

Cheers,
Matt

My suggestions ...

I think in general they used to wear white overalls with the odd badge sewn on. I.e. Fiat on the back, and on the front either a small manufacturer emblem & usually the oil manufacturer. Advertising/sponsorship was not utilised like today.

morning all;
The colour of the works overalls was (as close as I can see) 'Camel'. Overalls in this colour are available from:- www.historicracewear.com 'Farina vintage race overalls'. The works overalls had the motif 'ABARTH & Co' in red, in a square font, above the left breast pocket with an oblong surround, also in red. The works overalls had NO motif on the back.

Chris, I'm not sure I have either the figure, or the inclination for that matter, to pull off that outfit!

Thanks for the link for the Overalls Franko, The Hobbler also sent me the same one, so I'm going to get a pair. The Hobbler also sent me a few pictures of Abarth mechanics from the sixties. I noticed that the badge they have on the breast pocket isn't available anymore, so I was thinking (providing there are no copyright issues) in seeing if a company would make some custom cloth sew-on badges. If the price isn't too extortionate, would anyone else be interested if I ordered a few?

Evening Matt;
Glad to hear that you have managed to sort out your overalls---if you do get some badges embroidered, count me in for 1

Id be up for buying a few badges,for adding to overalls,polo shirts and bucket seats etc provided they are period correct,are you sure middle barton garage doesn't stock any?seems like a thing they'd have but ive never asked about them before.

Cheers Chris, I'll make sure to take plenty. My wife in particular is facinated when I attempt to show her a slideshow of the 200+ photos I usually take! :D
