My daughter has a Fiat 500 2013, she broke down yesterday, oil light came on then the car died, I topped up the oil, car turns over but wont start. Tried easy start and it fire up but then died again, i'm thinking could be a fuel issue possibly fuel pump, any body had this problem before.

Petrol, diesel, which model, any loss of coolant or oil and how much to top up, signs of overheating, previous issues, history, does it appear to turn over too fast abnormally, etc.
All will help possible diagnosis.:)

Hi bugsymike,
2013, Petrol, 1242 cc, coolant ok, oil is not mixing with it, no sign of oil leaks, will fire up with easy start but not run.
When you turn ignition on, but not start, can you hear the electric pump in the tank, it should run for a few seconds to build up pressure, then stop.
If can't hear it first check fuses, then relay in fuse box, details in owners handbook if you have one.
Also if that all appears to work, if careful for fire risk there is sometimes a valve like a tyre valve on the fuel rail for the injectors if applicable, which if you depress petrol will spray out if rail full of fuel. If so and still not running, then it may point to electrical issue not triggering the injectors.
If that is the case then a more in depth inspection involving diagnostic tool may be required.
Many on Forum use MES (multiecuscan).:)

It's getting no fuel then, airlock, fuel pump, electrical issue. (as mentioned)

She hasn't put diesel in it has she?
My old accountant did that with his Jag, it was still running after a round trip of 200 miles, but smoking like hell plus strong diesel smell, tank was nearly empty by then so I got him to fill up with good fuel and he got away with it.
Turned out fuel station had cars breaking down all over the country due to a load of diesel being dumped in petrol tanks on site!
Mind you with today's vehicles more likely to harm sensors and catalysts etc.:(

How about crankshaft sensor? When you crank it up and doesn't start, does the RPM gauge needle rise up to ~200, or does it stay down? If it stays down it means crankshaft sensor is gone. It being gone, ECU does not have data about engine revolution therefore won't power up the injectors.
