Well now the weather is getting slightly better I am thinking of starting some work to the car again.

I am thinking of painting the rear drums does anyone know how long this would take per drum? The rust just looks horrible with the alloys I got

Also do colour coded bumpers need to be declared on insurance if they are not standard? (Bumpers off a sporting put on to a 60S)

Cheers

Painting the drums?
Difficult question to answer. Basically, it depends how much time you intend spending on preparation (sanding rust down, cleaning, priming etc). The other thing, is the 'thumbs factor'.....if you're an 'all thumbs' kind of person or fairly handy with tools :D

In my case, from start to finish (alloy off to back on again), I took roughly 1hr per drum. I'm fairly adept with my hands and I'm a PITA when it comes to detail.
If I can give you some advice...DON'T paint the drums red. Does not look nice at all and detracts from the alloy. Better a dark colour.

No idea about the bumpers. Logic tells me it probably would differ insurance to insurance.

A simpler, but easier way to do the drums is to buy new ones, particularly if yours are a few years old.

You can then take as long as you want to paint them, agree with black, and then swap them over at your next brake service.

Contact your underwriter before fitting colour coded bumpers. Probably not an issue, but better to have it confirmed in writing before spending money.

Cheers for this mate will think about this

@rallycinq - I wasn't planning on doing them black because my car is black. Guess I will have to now and do the front sky blue instead.

You could get the drums powder coated for not much more cost than doing them yourself. Powder coat is heat resistant (baked at 200C) and much tougher than paint.

When I get my new discs I'm planning to have the middles (not the brake surface) powdered. Probably about £10 each. I'd also have the calipers done but it's a lot of hassle stripping out the seals and masking off.

Paint your fronts whatever colour you wish but do the drums black deffo :)

I Agree mate ...
Paint your back drum bits blackk and front caliper and that whatever colour ...
red just looks cheap tbh ... i have blue on my front caliper and just back rear wheel drum bit ... looks better then it being rusted, and also a lot better then it would look red (y)
