I dare say that any 'optimisation' of test cars will be across the board, and not just with the big F...unfortunately it's something that happens in all walks of life I guess.

Slightly different, but another example of this upselling - if we can call it that - is the likes of your McDonalds/Burger Kings. Watch an ad for their food on telly, that stuff looks lovely. The stuff you get served up in the takeaways is never that nice looking. I believe they got a rap on the knuckles for it a few years ago via the Advertising Standards Agency, or similar. But they still seem to get away with it anyway!

this is a bit different, and for example Mercedes don't give a hoot who you let drive your car Ferrari do because the cars are "unverifyed". audi dont send a test team out to racetracks to tune cars, they give journalists the keys and say "off you go". take any other marques car off a customer and put it up v a test car, it will be representitve. put a ferrari up against a test car it will be over 2 seconds slower to 100. it very much is just Ferrari who are doing this.

it's absoultely ridiculous that they chage hundreds of thousands for a car (that is undoubtedly a brilliant car), but wont give owners whats reviewed

Well, Ferrari aren't the first and won't be the last to do this. Remember the Maestro Turbo? Tweaked turbo's to produce more boost and gain amazing 0-60 times to grab the headlines. Of course, it was total coincidence the majority of these press cars found themselves engulfed in a cloud of smoke soon after setting these blistering times

Bit classier though is the E-Type Jag. It never did do the 150mph Jaguar claimed, often struggling to top 130. Doubt you'd want to go that fast in that particular machine anyway. End over end and backwards through a hedge on fire come to mind
