Does your Marea have a VIS (155) or older (147) engine?

I only ask as the FCP chip is only for the 147 engines. I should know, I have one in my Coupe :)

Its an odd one to answer whether its any good as I didn't really do much driving with a standard chip.

I had a one of the old classic HGT chips from somewhere shortly after getting the coop so put that it in. When news of the FCP chip came out I got in touch and an agreement to swap was made. I tried it out and Leighton got to disect the old chip I had to work out which was better.

Turns out the FCP chip is better and provides a smoother power delivery. Claims are it gives an extra 8bhp of power (I forget the torque increase). I can't necessarily verify this but I do think it has better responses to the throttle than previous.

Leighton has also developed a remap for the 16v Lancia engines (also found in the coupe) and this increases the NA version from 139bhp to 148-9bhp which for a NA engine is quite a jump. He certainly knows his stuff and comes highly recommended by pretty much the whole Coupe community.

This is what Leighton said to me when i enquired:
Mike,

This chip has been developed by us on a Bravo HGT, it is a custom eprom which you swap over from the factory eprom i.e. plug & play. Our gains are not inflated for marketing purposes, on back to back to tests using a Dastek dyno the specific gains were 8bhp and 7lbs/ft. It may make 10bhp on some cars, the variances between engines can account for more than this. Certainly with an induction kit and freer flowing exhaust you can expect more gains, I would estimate around 160-165bhp.

Regards,

Leighton

Red not needed.

In all my years of Coupe and Bravo/a ownership, I have never needed a red key for anything other than paranoia :D

Even with taking out the ECU from your Marea and changing the chip you still won't need the red key.
