Fault finding on battery/alternator

Hi Alex to me it sound like your alternator is :dead: RIP but let me ask one or two questions first [1] is your engine bay dirty and oily and [2] if the answer to number one is yes is there oil over the alternator ?

the reason i asked is that i once had an identical problem the ign light glowing at you after start up and then eventualy the ign light not going out the usuall checks drew a blank then i noticed the armature was contaminated i stripped it down gave it a very good clean and renewed the the carbon brushes and BINGO all was fine (y) even if its not oily renew the carbon brushes its a bit fiddly but doable good luck mate. :)

Well its going to be a weekend job if im honest, the hormann arches make getting the arch liner out either impossible or very very hard (i'm yet to find out which...) as they go into the arch alot further than the std arch lip does (n)

Not sure where i'm going to source an alternator from to be honest, but would rather just buy a new unit than start having mine to bits etc
