I've been advised by my local, trusted garage that the fast/erratic idle of our 1.9jtd is caused by a faulty throttle sensor switch. and that it only comes from Fiat complete with pedal box at a rather tasty £400! is there any way around this?
thanks in advance

Fly by wire you gotta love it, try booklady on here as her partner breaks multi's on ebay although i suspect it would need programming by a dealer.

Yes ! The way round it is to kick your local trusted garage owner in the nuts!
It's a throttle potentiometer, not a switch, it's probably not broken, and it just needs the wiring to it checking. There is a connector block in the passenger footwell that probably just needs a squirt of contact cleaner. Do a search for throttle potentiometer before you spend any money.
Come back if it's still a problem.
