Fascia panel question.

Hi to everyone on the forum, this is my first post, although I have been visiting the forum for a while.

I have recently become the proud and happy owner of a 1.8 Hlx. I absolutely love it! Although the amount I am spending on petrol now is slightly less pleasing when compared to my old cinqucento. Lol.

Ive decided to start upgrading the audio setup, and I have seen the head unit I want to buy. However this head unit has a flip down front panel, which is a problem, as the design of the dashboard fascia will not accommodate this style of head unit.
So I was just wandering if anyone has found a way around this problem? Or will I just have to get a non flip down head unit?

Any help would be appreciated.

the facia of my head unit folds down through 90 degrees to put a cd in and it works ok. If your headunit won't work with the standard facia there is another type. I'm sure someone will leave a pic on here who has one!

Hi Mike and welcome to the forum

Some flip down headunits fit, other don't, it depends on the movement.
What headunit were you thinking of getting, perhaps one of us has already tried it.

The head unit that i have my eye on is the Kenwood KDC-PSW9524. I would show you a pic, but i dont know how to post them, sorry.
From the picture i have, the front panel seems to drop down below the level of the actual casing, which would suggest that its not suitable, but as for how the panel actually moves, or if it can rest in different positions i dont know.

Maybe one of those non standard fascias that Alan mentioned might be an option, if someone could show me what they look like!?

the non standard fascias dont offer any more clearence for flipping front head units unfortunately.

The good news is that kenwood d-mask systems do work ok, the only one that i know there is a problem with is the sony tray loading head unit, where the front really does drop down.

Ok cool, thanks for your help lads. Sounds like i may just about get away with it!

I will be looking to upgrade the speakers in the car as well, can anyone recommend a good quality set of components for the doors and maybe rear shelf as well!? My budget will be £150 at the very most per pair.

I realise that i will need adapters to fit the new door speakers, but what about the rear shelf? Also where can i purchase the adaptors from?

i've been looking to do the same buy some new components for the front and proably put some in the back too i've found two sites that give a good selection though the latter is cheaper

i'm probably going to get the alpine SPR136A components, they are £128 on car audio direct and £100 on cel direct. but they are within my bidget im sure you'll find some other that best suit what your looking for!

Cheers for that nick, great help. I will check those websites out.

Ive not heard much about alpine speakers. Ive been told by people that JL Audio are pretty good, so i might see how much those are. Im also a bit of a fan of kenwood myself.

Jonathan, £10 for those adapters sounds good to me, i will probably order some off you in a few days after i get paid.

Hi,

Nick, why do you want componants in the rear of the car? The sound (treble) wants to be coming at you from the front and the mid sound wants to be lower down and the bass behind you or beneath you. Believe me you wont hear the difference by having componants in the back. Just get an amp and a channel splitter and have more tweeters in the front.
