Aaaahhhh!! My cars still intermittently only firing on three cylinders!! Even after the old inlet manifold was installed with completely different injectors. I'm driving to Southampton tomorrow so I have the rest of today to TRY and fix this annoying problem. I've taken it to someone I know with a diagnostics machine and got the following errors reading:

MAP Sensor;
Engine idle sensor;
Injector No. 1;
Coil circuit 2.

Isn't the engine idle sensor the same as the crankshaft sensor? If so then maybe the ECU doesn't realise this problem is solved?

Injector No. 1. Well no ****! We knew this wasn't working properly. But again maybe the ECU hasn't reset itself?

Coil circuit 2. I put the whole coil off my old engine on my new one, this was one of the first things I tried. Maybe they are both faulty? The guy at my local little garage said he replaces loads of these.

MAP Sensor. Worth trying a new one?

One small thing, there is a small diameter pipe which comes out of the back of the upper inlet manifold (plastic bit with Fiat on it) which is sucking slightly, it comes out next to where the MAP sensor is and we couldn't find where it goes onto. Maybe this is a contributing factor? Can anyone tell me where this goes to please so that I can eliminate this factor.

What are your thoughts mate?

Cheers,

Craig S.

not to sound stupid but did you get the faults cleared via diag. or not?

I thought it was a Mk1?!

Did your old one have an all alloy inlet manifold?

The engine is definately a Mk2, and I think my car is a Mk1. Don't know why? It came like that when I bought it.

I'm not sure the errors were cleared when the diag machine was hooked up to it. The wierd thing is I drove to him this morning on 3 cylinders, he hooked up the machine and after a few seconds it was on a full house again! Drove away, it was perfect for 15 mins, then back to 3 again! Odd.

What do you reckon my next option is?

On the Mk1s the map sensor is under a plastic box at the back of the engine bay, linked by a small hose from the manifold next to the air temp sensor and the brake servo hose.

On Mk2s its integrated with the temp sensor.

Sounds like yours is not connected.

Looked at the Haynes and mine is the latter. It is connected too, so maybe its duff? Would the hose next to it thats sucking air and not connected to anything have anything to do with it?

Craig S.

If its got the extra small hose then its expecting the external MAP sensor.

Can you get me a photo of your old and new engines.

I'll email them to you. My email is [email protected] in case you want to email me first so that your not posting your email address on the forum.

Should I have got him to clear the errors coming from the ECU? I don't think he did thinking about it. Maybe the ECU still thinks theres a problem with no 1 injector so its limiting a signal to it when its actually ok? I'll go back down and get him to clear the errors.

I'm not very clued up on ECU's/diagnostics!
