FAO Tom. (re weird indicator problem)

1.6SX Brava 1996P.

I've got an intermittant problem where the left indicator causes the stop-light warning symbol on the dash to flash.
I've checked the "Search" and Haynes without success.
Thinking it was an earth problem I carried out Svens' advice....no dice, still happening.

Any thoughts on what this could be? I've got to drive down to London and would like to have indicators. Although the left one does work (very slowly) with the flashing warning light I get the feeling it won't for long!

Re do the earth - make a new lead to the cluster.
Also clean and check the pins on the relay for the repeaters.
If the stop light flickers, it reports there is something worong with the stop light bulb - change them on both clusters

I'll do as you suggest.
Just to clarify; all lights work properly save for the rear nearside indicator. This works after a fashion (its not blown) and flashes very slowly causing the stop light warning light on the dash to flash with it.

I've checked all bulb contacts and the earth lead (no 19 on Svens guide). All appears well, but I'll re-do it.

You're certain it isn't a problem with the control stalk? Or is that the next place to go should the above not solve the problem?

it shouldnt be anything to do with the stalk trust me im fixing mine at the moment and i have had your problem

easy fix on mine as it was the connection on the back of the lights as the subs had kicked it loose just take out the connector check it hasnt melted and refit see how that goes if not then it will be the earth

After taking advice from Tom, Sven & Darren I seem to have cured the weirdness with my rear indicators.

It's one of the pleasures of owning a Brava (and being in BOO) that top blokes like them can be bothered to help.

Darren,

just out of interest what's wrong with your Brava?
I reckon your paint finish looks really cool, and the engine bay is exemplory! BTW what's the red brace at the top of the engine bay actually do? Is it to improve handling or what?
I would have thought the Brava's body was already stiff enough, as the way it drives is one of its strong suits. But I guess you live and learn.

Hope you get yours sorted soon. It's one of the best looking "modded" Brava's I've seen. You must have spent a good deal of time and cash getting it to this point, but you must be pleased with the results.

I hope the fault with the stalk turns out to be an easy fix.

cheers mate always welcome a good point on the car and then again who doesnt it was designed to show off and when its sunny it does it well.

The paintwork is all standard apart from a lacquer respray with the holoflake mixed into it, the engine bay is one of my favourite places on a car and the 1.6 16v has a great engine to look at and spend a good bit of time to clean heat the engine for 5 mins untill warm to the touch then use a kitchen degreaser and the dirt just falls off was a great 2 hours cleaning it but as you can see it was worth it.

The strut brace is designed to help with the handling of the car to make it more rigid helping the car put a firmer hold on the ground my car has never really handled well so i tried this but i still need new shocks as that is where the problem is for my handling dillemas and as for cost you would beleive how much has actually gone into this a lot LESS than you think its almost 10 months since i owned the car from standard and im loving every moment of the brava including the stalk problems which will hopefully be solved today if you look in the BOO Repair guide you will see what is happening with my car at the moment in replacing stalk
