Well, a friend of mine went to Andorra and sent some pictures that show Pandas with free wheeling hubs.
Does anyone know a bit more about them? You too Pandafan?

what's a free-wheeling hub?.. the probably answer is ... "eh?"

I had them on my last 'Landie', but ... such is life...................

I didn't know they existed for the Panda, but the idea with freewheel hubs is you'd have these hubs on the back wheels (on a Panda), and during normal road running they are selected to freewheel, and the rear axle and drive train would not have to turn over because of the "freewheel" hubs.

It would go most of the way towards getting the fuel economy we get on 2x4 Pandas, be less noisey, and not wear the rear axle and bits so much.

On the down side, you'd probably have to get out to take each hub out of freewheel mode when you go mud plugging. (some exotic 4x4's can do this remotely.)

I do know how this works and know that the A112/Y10 4x4 had it even electric, but I wondered whether this was available. If so I would like to do this to my 4x4.
I tried to send some pictures to Steve and hope ha can attach them for you to see because I hate computers and do not know how th attach them to a post.

Ah, I had thougth it was those wheel trims that stayed the same way up as the wheel turns... I don't think you can get them for the panda either.

Did you want to insult me? :)

Would I degrade an icon of true (off road) motoring in such a ridiculous way.

I love my Pandas.

Have you got details about the free wheeling hub on any Panda 4 x 4?
this company sells a free wheeling kit fro the 4x4 panda for free wheeling axles, alongside something that looks like a remote mechanism...
