I’m experiencing some weird readings on the instrument display showing a risk of ice on the road on warm summer days! I think it’s the external temperature sensor located in the driver side mirror housing.
Is it relatively easy to replace?
Does it affect the DPF regeneration? - I have the 2.3 Multijet engine. Auto gearbox. Not adblue and I don’t have automatic climate control.

It may not be the sensor it may be a poor connection at the mirror wiring connector, or a poorly wire.
There are some good aftermarket mirror assemblies that are not crazy expensive.
If you go route of replacing mirror keep the old one for a spare/parts. If going aftermarket mirror make sure it has sensor in -lots don't.

There are posts on forum re your very question you may find them using search function.

@Communicator may have info.

If you can find a suitable sensor online there is no reason it cannot be fitted to mirror . Stripping mirror apart is not for faint hearted but can be done.

By the way if it's comfortmatic gearbox get the robot selespeed fluid replaced with selespeed fluid and clutch fluid replaced with clutch fluid . Fiat say it's filled for life- they mean filled until warranty expires. Change the fluids every two years .

Since I have been mentioned, I will comment.

No vehicle details are mentioned, but from the mention of non adblue it must be more recent than 2006, and from this that it is a Gen 3, rather than a Gen 2 (1993 - 2006) vehicle.

I have no experience in changing external temperature sensors, but I remember seeing threads relating to adding/replacing them. Such threads could be located by either forum or internet search.

I would advise the OP to seek resolution of his problem on an urgent basis, as there may be serious side effects.

Now I will be a Jonah.
I must warn the OP that he may have inadvertently purchased a potential problem, as his engine being non adblue is probably a twin EGR version. These engines have a reputation? for gumming up the EGR coolers with oily residues, sometimes associated with incorrect diagnosis, and ineffectual expensive repairs.

I am sorry but as the medics state, there is no easy way to say this.

@theoneandonly has being doing sterling work collating information, and if engine details perhaps including the engine series from the VIN plate are provided, he will probably be able to advise.

Thanks both. I’ll get the VIN number across to you and we can go from there. Thanks so much for your help.
I think that the engine type next to the heading "Motore" may be more useful and discreet than posting the VIN on open forum.

Thanks for the advice. I’m not very mechanically savvy so is the engine type noted on the vehicle itself or the handbook? I haven’t seen anything like ‘Motore’ anywhere.

I’ve read through the thread about EGR issues and it’s quite worrying. Is this common or are we just seeing the horror stories?

See VIN plate on vehicle.

The appropriate thread which may be viewed here, has over two thousand posts. Make your own judgement.

If reg 2018 it will be a Twin EGR model, I have writen a number of guides. the second is a simplified version of the 100 page thread.

I obviously need to write another guide about Mirror sensors.
Fiat Mirror sensors have absolutely nothing to to with regeneration of the DPF there are plenty of threads where ive gone into detail.
ONLY ADBLU Peugeot and Citroen engines use this sensor on the CAN-LO BCM, FIAT uses other sensors on CAN-HI on ECM or seperate modules for Adblu modules. the latest Stelantis 2.2 is same accross platforms.

For the sake of clarity for morons like myself, are you saying that a 2024 2.2 litre 9 speed does not rely on the mirror temp sensor for anything important?
I ask because I am a long way from home and my external temperature indication has just gone on the blink.

Regards
