I'm having my cams changed (thanks danny!), but the bloke who's doing it is an ex volvo specialist and is not too experienced with fiats, and he would like to know....

* Are the sprockets keyed in the back onto the cams?

* Will the standard camshaft locking brackets fit over the higher profiled cams?

* And also is there any special locking/setting up tools needed to time the new cams?

This is all on hold till i can find out the info, i went and spoke to my local fiat garage but they were about as helpful as throwing petrol on a fire you want to put out!

Oh and, if i do have to buy any special tools would anyone be interested in taking them on afterwards? i did have a thought that if i did (especially if i bought a universal setting up tools rather than a specific one) maybe fiatboo would be interested in buying (obviously cheaper than i got them) them off me to rent out to members? I often see people asking for cam locking tools!

Its a Brava 1.8 elx, anything would helpful!

the question about the locking tools for the cams is a yes u do there like £120 as i need one for my car thats the reason im breaking and i beleave they will fit ur other cams as they go from the ecu side not the pulley side the other question i wont know sorry mate

Are you just changing the cambelt? or you doing them cams as well? cos i've changed the cambelt myself and you don't need cam lockers for that, it says you should but you don't need to as long as your careful

It worries me that he asks this.

* Will the standard camshaft locking brackets fit over the higher profiled cams?

Probably not, especially as you have 2 exhaust cams in that kit.

* And also is there any special locking/setting up tools needed to time the new cams?

Nope.

I'm just asking so i can give him all the info he needs so that when he takes it all apart he has all the right kit to properly set them up! Wouldn't want my car to be out of action for too long. I'm just trying to get some info from someone who knows these things inside out, any helpful knowledge would be gratefully received!

The timing data is on the boxes so he may well have to spend some time with a degree wheel and a DTI getting them right.
