Is there much advantage to a decat to a cat back system? is it easy to put the std setup back on for mot?

yeah am prob going either longlife or powerflow, just thinking if the extra hasstle at mot time with a decat is worth the extra you get over a cat-back?

Decat is supposed to be worth a few extra bhp, especially at higher revs. Supersprint do a system with replaceable cat section for MOT time.

wouldnt a long life or powerflow, be one piece from the manifold to the tail pipe.

it would mean replacing the whole exhaust system come MOT time and not just the de-cat pipe

Yeah - Longlife's are one BIG pipe - 'tis lovely (I need a new louder backbox tho!) They are supposed to give a fair bit more power. And I'm afraid it means whipping the exhuast off for MOT - untill I get a CAT section made up for it.

could you not just have the pipe in 2 sections that bolt together perfect to make it the same as just 1 pipe but have one part replacable with the cat when you need it? surely powerflow could sort this

well if i got a powerflow or longlife, is it a easy job to fit the std zorst back on for mot? or should i be spending my time worrying about other bits of the car come mot time?

aledgedly if u stick an eco-tec filter widget thingy on it (theres a name for it i'm sure) it keeps the emissions low enough to go through the mot without having the cat put back on.

It is however illegal to drive a car that was designed to have a cat, without one on the public highway, and they give u nasty foines if u get pulled for an onsite emissions test

i've got a ecotek sitting on my shelf ironically lol but if a car with cat got a decat pipe, even if emissions were ok it'd still fail for not having a cat though wouldnt it?

It doesn't have to have a CAT to pass MOT - just needs to have correct emmisions - If you want to cheat the system then empty tank before MOT and put a small amount of industrial alcohol in - enough to get to MOT centre and then to petrol station, because the car will run on it. Makes a funny smell but APPARENTLY produces no emmisions. It's not kosher - but then again I have been informed that it's not srictly illegal or anything - b'cos you CAN claim that it is what you run your car on permenrntly - how can they prove otherwise??!! But there ain't a way around those roadside tests - fail them and your knackered...
It's a bit s*it really b'cos the CAT is such a s*ite system and only really reduces emmisions by less than 1% - just another one of those cr*p laws.

you sure it doesnt need a cat to pass mot?

hmmm, maybe if i use the ecotek valve combined with that 10,000k spray stuff, then it might make it through the mot

I am pretty sure it don't have to have a CAT - it's just emmissions - can always check at your local MOT centre.
