Remeber the rolling smart car? Though i'd post up the latest mod to it, as i know at least some of you might be interested!

It has a 3" Exhaust bypass valve fitted.

Been out in the car tonight - got some photos and videos.

Basically, what the bypass does is when the car is on above around 1bar of boost, it opens a valve in the exhaust and dumps the waste gas straight to atmosphere via a 3" pipe. It negates using these pesky silencers and other restrictions.

and some videos of it in action:

why wouldnt it work?

but yeah, works great. need to rolling road the car though to check the differences it makes. but the turbo spools up quicker

erm, yeah.. maybe.. but people drive around with straight through systems - this one only kicks when the turbo is boosting high - so not like its open all the time. it can be easily disabled too (y)

no, it wouldnt benefit an N/A car. an N/A car needs a properly designed system to help get shut of exhaust gasses. on a turbo car, after the turbo you just need to get rid of the gasses, you don't need to concern yourself with pressures and proper design.. just need as little restriction as possible. on a turbo car, the exhaust manifold is very important, but after that - phat pipe is fine.

also this particular valve wouldn't work on an N/A car anyways, its opened when the boost produced by the turbo reaches 1bar.. and N/A car wouldnt build boost! sorry!

Driven a TD with a straight through exhaust about 250 miles... The pipe sheared right after the flexible and mr AA couldn't fix it. Still got the usual power and ecconomy but with the sound of some American V8 muscle car! Felt upset when I fitted the new front pipe :(

imo its just a cheap version of a external wastegate lol
also it would work on a n/a car aslong as you found a way of opening and closing the valve but there wouldnt be that much improvement and will just sond like your exhaust is blowing

well.. erm.. no.

a wastegate diverts exhaust gate round the turbo once its generated enough boost.. this does nothing of the sort - the car already has an electronic wastegate to control boost.

working on an N/A.. depends what you class as working i guess, could you get it to vent gasses to atmosphere? yes. is there any point? no. :)

Those clips that were posted.
Are they just audio or vid aswell, as i just get audio?

EDIT- I thinks its the codecs, how do i go about putting this right?
*puts on dunces cap*
