Technical Error messsages

Error message on starting shows Engine Failure but the car will run fine sometimes. Other times it has to be started 3-4 times before it will fire. sometimes the temperature gauge, even when car is stone cold! flicks to too hot and drops down to cold 3-4 times within a few seconds and shows Rad Liquid on display message. sometimes on starting when touching the accelerator the engine will die.

Garage at a loss to causes despite computer diagnotics test done twice now!!! Any ideas or solutions gratefully received and appreciated. Please please help we are desperate!!!!

Check the engine and battery earths are good.
