Technical ERG Valve

I have a 1.9 MJET Diesel, my engine management light has been on for the past two weeks, my car was only serviced and MOT'd in November so I took it back to the Fiat garage in Blackpool where they told me that it was a fault with the ERG valve which they couldn't delete they told me that I required a new EGR valve which they want £315 for replacing. Other people are describing a lack of power but I am not seeing this problem but I found a guide on here on how to clean it. It was full of soot but after cleaning the engine management light remains on, would this fault clear itself if cleaning fixed the problem or would this need doing using FiatECUScan? If it should clear itself then do i require a new EGR valve?

It should reset within a couple of drives up to temperature, providing the valve is fixed? The pin in the motor of the valve can seize making the valve fail.

This happened to me, cleared all pipes and the valve but light and problem remained.

Fiat wanted £100 to supply only a re-furbed EGR with no warranty.
