Hi, i am about to remove the engine from my 1500 is there any other jobs i could do at the same time i will be renewing clutch, waterpump, stat, head gasket and belts. Do i need to change the battery lead etc
You are right on the heavy duty power leads - replace them while you can.
Check the bottom end if you like while at it - at least replace the rubber seals as they will be getting old.
Replace the oil pressure sender as they tend to leak past a certain age (about the time it took to get the car from the factory to the showroom I reckon).
Replace all the fuel lines and the fine bore water pipes.
Try to get the engine mounts replaced - once again the rubber will be on its way out by now - the bottom engine mount especially.
I think by now you might be getting the message - if it is rubber it probably needs replacing...
Cheers jimbro that helps alot, saves me doing it afterwards.Just a quick question on the exhaust is there any other rear boxes that can be modded it get a bit of a sporty sound without spending loads of money on after market ones. Thanks again
Any suitably sized box will do the job but you need to have the rest of it fabricated and that may not be so easy - don't forget that you need a 2-1 collector in the system somewhere if you want to keep the original manifold (I assume you do) or use two boxes which adds to cost and complexity.
The box needs to have the gearbox brace added in order to support the weight and avoid risking the manifold getting damaged.
Does not sound that easy think i will keep the old one.i have stripped the car down no rot in the floor couple of little plates needed under the bonnet, sills are in perfect conditon repaired the doors not to bad.The car looks like it has had zeibart wax oil applied and i think that has saved it from a lot of rot.I am going to buy the fibreglass mk1 bumpers and overriders and modify the front valance
Thanks again jimbro your a star
