Engine under tray?

I've just noticed the plastic engine under tray has a crack at the back along where the rear bolt attaches to the bottom of the car. This causes the tray to hang down and scrape along the ground, because of this i've also lost the splash guard on the drivers side.

I've got a 97 1.8hlx.

Are the under trays universal? or will I need to pick a specific car when scrounging from the scrappy?

many thanks

The engine undertray was only fitted on the 1.8 HLX and will only suit the 1.8 HLX. There are no unversal ones.

I'm sure the HGT and JTD's have them aswell but from looking at it they may have different mounting points under the car.

You'll find it very hard finding one in a scrap yard.

You don't really need it but you do need your arch liners and any covers that are fitted in the arch to prevent much getting into the engine bay or on the belts.

Thanks for the reply

I think the tray might just come out.. and I'll just replace the arch liner, thanks again

Its just sound proofing. Ever noticed big pouches all over the under tray?

yeah, but i cant help but think where the rabbit would of embeded itself if the cover were`nt there

It probably would of survived as the under tray dips quite low.

Look for yourself how low it is. When mine was removed it gave much more clearance.

I put mine back on, only because i found if drove through a large puddle, my car would loose power for a split second...

Mine had to come off after an oil leak made it go all saggy.

Havn't replaced it since and that was in August.

I do remember thinking the car sounded more noisey.

If I see one to fit (cheap) then I'll get one, but otherwise... I'll stay without for now.

It reduces drag at high speed (car goes much better on the motorway with it on)

It protects your engine from water & stones flying up off the road, not essential as the cam belt is covered, but it helps.

It reduces road noise.
